crescenthillstampsYou have some lovely Philatelic material there. Really nice stuff. It's not my area of deep knowledge, so I cannot offer a deeper appraisal, price etc But look forward to any further response here, in that regard.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

crescenthillstamps The collection appears to have some nice quality items. If most are mounted in a Scott album your best bet is to find yourself a fairly current Scott United States Specialized Catalogue. It will tell you all you would need to know about what you have. Your posts suggest you have some basic understanding of what you have. If you are looking to sell you would be best to find a reputable stamp auction house. None of us here are really in a position to give you estimates or certification. There is a whole section of USA threads under the United States on the Home Page. Future postings related to the collection would be best posted on threads in that section. You can also find a wealth of information there on the stamps you have.

crescenthillstamps If the Canada 1 cent and 3 cents small Queens are mint with original glue they are desirable. I collect world wide but mostly focused on Canada and the Provinces as well as all the other British America countries.

How does one tell if the glue is original? What sort of potential value do you see in those?

You should be able to see actual glue and you can see what they would be going for on completed sales on eBay. Asking prices mean nothing. As I mentioned before this forum is not a valuation or sale site. Scott has world wide catalogues as well. They do not need to be new to help you identify what you have. I am using catalogues from 2000.

Greetings crescenthillstamps - I think the answers provided on the Australian forum will pretty much mirror what everyone here will say about how to price etc - it sounds like you’re planning to sell? Yes? Then I second what hdm1950 said - consigning to auction is your best bet. In any case, a find like this collection is amazing! Like hitting the lottery. You’ll simply have to share the exciting story - was this from a garage sale or something like that? We all love treasure hunt tales - so much fun! Do tell! Please!

crescenthillstamps Your last postage stamp (Belgium) has been cancelled by a hand held roller, affectionately known as a "Pizza Wheel" or a "Pizza Cutter" Fairly common, no extra premium seen for these, but interesting. Hope this helps. My collection.
As an aside, I also have this similar circular cancel in my collection that defies identification (that I can recall) If any members have information, would be welcomed (Exists on stamps cancelled 1948 and 1965) Scott#455

How does one tell if the glue is original? What sort of potential value do you see in those? A general advice: take a lens and look intensively especially at the edges of the perforations. If there are defects in the glue there, then it is usually not original glue. (Unfortunately, clever counterfeiters have also recognized this and mill off the edges of the perforations accordingly...). Thus, for valuable stamps, only the examiner with his certificate remains.

The story of the collection is not quite as exciting as a yard sale find but I’ll tell it anyway. I am a high school English teacher by trade but I have a side business where I buy and sell estate collections of coins (and sometimes other things). A gentleman contacted me with this collection which was his mothers in order to liquidate it. He also had a small coin collection and a large amount of WWII ephemera which I was unable to purchase. We met several times and agreed on a price (certainly not yard sale deal territory but I do feel there is room for some profit). As a coin collector, I have the itch for all things old and historically significant. I will probably liquidate most of it but will keep some meaningful pieces for my personal collection of odds and ends picked up along the way.
