I was just going through my "kiloware" collection of US stamps and became acutely aware that I miss the beauty and fine/crisp detail of engraved stamps. Do any countries still use the engraving process to produce their stamps? And when did the United States stop engraving stamps?
This is my first attempt to post on the forum so please excuse any mistakes.

His engravings have been the basis of numerous stamps from many countries in recent years (without claiming to be exhaustive: Canada, Sweden, Belgium, Latvia, Jersey, PR China, Greenland, Monaco, Denmark, Luxembourg, France, Iceland). Here is a souvenir sheet from the Faroe Islands issued 2023, in which his thousandth (!!) stamp engraving is honored.

Well done for your first posting Stamper49 ; keep them coming ;-) As for engraved stamps, many countries still issue engraved or recess releases and the list for 2024 currently includes France, Japan and Monaco, among others. The last major series produced by engraving from the United States of America was the Transportation coils from 1981-19951 as shared here in this thread, " U.S. Transportation Series". If you have not already done so and want to brush up on your engravers, check out the puzzle, 'Find the Engravers!' in the latest TSF newsletter as other have done here. Have fun and happy collecting!

Thank you rednaxela and stanley64 for your replies. Knowledge is out there and I'm glad people are willing to share, and I'm glad engraving for stamps is alive and well. You can ask me for tips about building cabinets, or backpacking, or building trails with the US Forest Service in the High Sierras of California, or Montana, or even building a timber house in the woods, that doesn't relate very well to stamping.
Endlessly fascinating.
