What is this sticker on the reverse of a cover? Have you seen it before?
As you can see, it depicts the infamous German Eagle complete with the Nazi swastika. Could these types of stickers have been privately produced? Or were they issued for some sort of official mail at the time?
The WWII-era cover was addressed to a Richard Eberhardt, but I'm not sure if that is the American poet or another Eberhardt.
I once asked Christoph Gärtner but said that he couldn't recall seeing one before. I also asked on another forum about ten years ago, but here's hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light all these year later.

Catweazle , it's the symbol for the German Luftwaffe, WWII. Can you please show the front of the cover? Thanks, Daniel

Simply referred to as an "Envelope Seal" or a "Cover Seal" "Stationery Seal" Although not seen before, there are hundreds of differing seals from Germany, most with a round shape, and a deckled edge, or points such as made with "pinking shears"
