The cinderellas and the nice, clear meter on this French postcard are what first caught my eye. I often Google the names on cards and covers while browsing, especially when one looks to be unusual enough to find specific information. Certainly, A.D. Bestebreurtje is an uncommon name, and I was not disappointed! This newspaper article from June 1977 profiles “Dr. B.”, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, VA, on the eve of the premiere of the award-winning film A Bridge Too Far. Supplementing that with this translation of the Dutch Wikipedia entry for “Captain Harry”, I’ve discovered a fascinating man who played an important part in history. And all because I thought those poster stamps from France looked nice.

Yes it is quite a find.
Doing a search like you have described does not come naturally to me as yet.
What I really like about your approach is it opens up a clear direction to collect world items.
I am stale in a way I know Australia KGV's and Australia 1990 to now very well and tend to not look at anything else because of a lack of knowledge.
Thanks for sharing. kg5

What I really like about your approach is it opens up a clear direction to collect world items. I'm still a newbie collector, so I don't really have any areas where have more knowledge. Often I just browse for stuff that looks interesting to me.

I, too, thought the poster stamps looked nice so I searched for them on ebay and acquired a set of five. It seems that they were issued to support Paris' celebration of its 2000th birthday on July 8, 1951. The central design feature of the stamps is the coat of arms of France's capital and most populous city.
