APS has informed me that our application has been received and that the approval process will take 60 to 90 days.
Our references will be checked and notice of our application will be published in The American Philatelist (most likely the March 2014 issue).
The application will be considered for formal approval at the end of the month during which the announcement appears in AP.

Hi Steve
That's great. I guess my assumption that the acceptance policy for groups might be the same as for an individual was correct.
By the way what are the dues for a group? Is it the same as for an individual?

Jerry,
You were correct -- it appears that the exact same screening process is being followed.
The dues for groups (at least, for now) are the same as that of individuals.

I see in the latest APS magazine, under the Membership Report, some character by the name of Tomisek, Steven J. (222596) Woodbridge, VA has applied for membership. Anyone ever heard of him? So, I guess we will be in if nobody objects by the end of February! One of the things that those who are not now members will appreciate is the ability to read past aps magazines back to 2007, including some bonus articles that don't appear in the magazine. Theron.

Not so fast...
The listing of my name is grouped with those applying for individual membership and not in the separate category normally published for Chapter membership applicants.
I've emailed the APS to see why The Stamp Forum wasn't listed as having applied for Chapter membership (I'm already an individual member) and will share their response as soon as it is received.

The listing was an error -- when the membership report was pulled. the club name was omitted. Our Chapter membership status remains the same as I am listed in APS records as the APS representive for The Stamp Forum.

No worries, Theron. I just went searching back for this Application Status thread because I wasn't clear on the whole publication/announcement/formal approval thing.

I'm pleased to report that The Stamp Forum was granted status as a Chapter Member of the American Philatelic Society on February 28, 2014 (we are Chapter 1591). The Stamp Forum has a listing in the local clubs section of the APS website (with a link to the TSF website) and I've been told that an announcement will appear in the Membership Report to be published in the April edition of The American Philatelist. TSF members who are not individual APS members will not have APS website access credentials; however, they may view the online AP here. Non-APS members wishing to search the AP archive for specific subject matter should send me a message and I will conduct the search via my member access. In this regard, your patience will be appreciated. Should any of you want to become APS members, please notify me in advance so TSF can receive the $5 referral bonus.

Hi Steve
That's great!
I am also willing to do searches so you can send me a message also. Like Steve "your patience will be appreciated".
Steve: I assume you are searching the APRL and any back issues. What else other than StampStore?

Non-APS members can search the APRL catalog and use the Library's services for a slightly higher fee than is paid by APS members.
However, if their catalog search directs them to an article that was published in the AP, non-APS members don't have the ability to access to those archives and view the material. AP issues from 2007 onward have been digitized thus far so I (we) have the ability to access that material for our members.
