Keep the faith Michael, they will always turn up again. They are Cinderellas, so tough to get a listing.
I do not have (but would like) "Les Timbres de Fantasie"
France Metz - WWII Liberation Overprints Following the Liberation of France from the control of the German Third Reich in August 1944, many cities and towns produced "Liberation" overprints for their postage stamps. There were a few issues that were approved by the French Ministry of Posts, but most were unofficial. This is a complete set of 8 unofficial overprints from the city of Metz. This set is listed in Bourdi's "Les Timbres de Fantasie et Non Officiels - Vol. 3" as # L-1420 - L-1427. The set is F/VF, unused no gum.

A good opportunity to give my catalogue collection a workout! Nothing in Michel Southwest Europe 2007. Nothing in Cérês 2000. Nothing in Yvert & Tellier 2007. But Dallay 2006-07 saves the day! Release date Nov 24 1944, quantity unknown, value for a set of 8 is €285 MNH, €200 MH.

I knew if I dug deep enough I would find them - I've found my copy of the 2-volume Maury (Cérês & Dallay) 2009. Catalogue value for the set of 8 has moved up to €300 MNH and €260 MH. Used sets are valued at €270, there is no price shown for covers but it does have a note which says they exist on cover.

By the way, I could point out that the Maury catalogue wins the prize for best specialized catalogue relative to its price - only €20 for over 1400 pages. I wish Michel used the same pricing structure for their Germany specialized!

Here are a couple of the attractive values of a set of overprints for the liberation of the French city of Cluses: the 1F, and the 5F Overprinted Cluses | Liberee | 18-8-44 or August 18, 1944. These overprinted liberation issues are very common across France, though some of them seem to be made up in rather small quantities. I expect that there are some reprints floating around. The one listing I found for these does not picture the examples for Cluses, so I'll just tuck these away without knowing much more about them.

Here's another thread on TSF about French liberation overprints - I had to dig through a few different catalogues before I was able to find a listing for the Metz issues. When I get back home in a couple of days I'll look to see what I can find out about your Cluses stamps. thestampforum.boards.net/thread/942/catalogue-value-metz-unofficialsRyan
