A question: Would it make more sense to locate this thread under "Middle East"? And an offering:

A question: Would it make more sense to locate this thread under "Middle East"? And an offering: I am open to change, I would defer to Admin. Possibly easier to locate for new members if under Middle East. I always initially go by Wiki Geography.

Possibly easier to locate for new members if under Middle East. I'm not sure if it's an American thing or just a Zuzu thing, but it's the first region I think of.

It's funny, but I remembered hearing the term "Near East" back in my days as a young pup, and I wondered exactly where the delineation from "Near" to "Middle" occurred. To quote Wikipedia, "the term was originally applied to the maximum extent of the Ottoman Empire, but has since been gradually replaced by the term Middle East." I guess the "Near East" is now like a dead post office! Ryan

My Iran collection has more holes than a Swiss Cheese, any members collecting Iran, and would like to trade / swap? I could possibly manage 50 / 100. Two pages I have managed to complete.

Forgery? (strong inner frame line Right Hand Side) Sc#52 Unknown? (Presume forgery on an unauthorised reprint) (Assumed "PP" stands for Post Persanes") Note : The "Aigrette" is the plumed device on the front of the Cap, named after the Bird, the Plumed Egret. Unauthorised reprints? White, slightly crackly gum, can see through stamp held to the light. Unable to see any "mesh" in the paper.

"PP" overprint on Iran Stamps. Still not solved. See thestampforum.boards.net/post/23658Askphil re "PP" notes P.P.: overprint on stamps of France postage due conversion to postage, Offices in Morocco. 1: postal permit marking on prepaid mail. 2: auction abbreviation term for private perforations. 3: penny post. 4: Port Paye; postage paid. 5: abbreviation for Pulled Perforation

Just for Fun; 1915 Crown of Darius Issue, MH. Scott #560-568 Darius was a worshipped hero king of Old Persia. He was crowned around 400 B.C. and made the Perdsian Empire the greatest empire of the time. He fought the famous battle of Marathon from which a messenger ran on foot at top speed for two days to Athens to bring tidings of the battle.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

The look at Iran stamps went fairly quickly with a few classic Persian stamps I was missing. There was also this nice MNH set issued for EXPO 67 in Montreal. I try to cut off my world wide at 1965 but sometimes I cannot help myself. May be one day I will decide to do an EXPO 67 topical collection. I did not see a thread for world fairs so I will post these here.

May be one day I will decide to do an EXPO 67 topical collection. That's what I have started. I haven't done anything with it yet as every time I turn around, oops there's another! Like that Iran issue! Never knew until now! That's one more I need to find!

showing my ignorance - I'd thought Persia became Iran only on the exile of the Shah - but apparently technically been Iran since mid 1930s. This FDC issued 26th January 1969 - at the height of the White Revolution - some of the areas intended for reform are showing on the segments of the central design, and the currency appears to be Rials. However, the best laid plans of mice and men etc. - the Shah was deposed and it seems the White revolution came to an end, but an attractive cover and very unusual stamp arrangement.
