Interesting Cover, first time I have seen an AIR MAIL text in the Pitney Bowes Machine cancel box, I have ergo, nicked your scan. Not saying it is rare, I don't collect many Aust covers, but still a first for Moi.

I'm trying to decipher the slogan cancel - perhaps you can help? It appears to be "Address Mail to Private Box No. It Expedites Delivery."
Also, do you happen to know what the two "10"s surrounding the date mean? Are they simply large indicators of the day (10th of February)?

Hi Zuzu, cannot assist you on either question, I only have information for the Western Australian slogans. As for all Western Australian Philately, everything has been minutely examined, the fellow who wrote the following book is part of my Stamp Club, he walks on rarified ground. How human beings manage to document such information in such detail, still boggles my mind. I am with you on the "10's" I think date, but that is purely a guess. Here is the Western Australian style slogans and when they were used, details of the PB (Pitney Bowes) strike are absent.

I got this commercial cover for less than the price of a coffee....it appears rather plain but I like its simplicity and neatness; Maybe I'll become a fly-specker and research the KGV issues, when I retire!!!! Jim in Georgia

You'll need 2 Lifetimes, Jim. They are extremely involved. I don't see any irregularities at first glance.

Here is a FDC from December 1st, 1954. I forgot I had this queued up for POTD thread. Better late than never, and in an appropriate thread at that. Sent by Airmail from Sydney Australia to Vancouver Canada. Australia was getting a jump-start to the 1956 Olympic Games being held in Melbourne, and also Stockholm, Sweden! That story is over on Wikipedia.

A short paid cover to the USA, 1959
Posted with a 4d definitive, short paid 3-1/2 as the correct rate at this time was 7-1/2d. Assessed T 21 gold CENTIMES due in Australia which the US converted to US 7 cents due. (Likely converted at 3 centimes = 1 US cent)
Endorsed "refused insufficient postage" likely by addressee.
Final disposition unknown as the reverse bears no postal markings.

I had to think twice about where to post this cover. Despite appearances it was sent from Australia and hence the postage due mark of T 30 gold centimes. The Chief Inspector of Taxes in the UK, based in Wales, has sent a letter to Lt Cdr (Lieutenant Commander) R Harvey in New South Wales, Australia. It is postmarked 6th April 1965 with a 'Have You Taken Out Your Licence For Radio-TV?' slogan. A prepaid return label was enclosed and duly used. However, even an On Her Majesty's Service Official Paid label from the UK was not valid for use from Australia and so the entire postage was due, the equivalent of 30 gold centimes, the UPU international currency used up to 1966. Sent to Australia Sent from Australia

I seem rarely to get covers, but this is possibly more interesting than I realize, at least to someone else - let me know what people think please - hope I can read the writing .......... Apparently the first flight from Narrandera to Sydney by Ansett Airways on 19th October 1937, and addressed to what looks like Mr. E. H. Wythes of Ashfield, NSW - the arrival mark looks to be 'ASHFIELD - A20 DC 37, but not entirely sure. The stamps are SG 193/194, first issued October 1937 - commemorating '150th Anniversary of Foundation of New South Wales', with air mail cachet - these are commonly found stamps. The reverse of the cover shows special cinderella celebrating the 150th Anniversary Celebrations - January to April 1938 - and post mark AIR MAIL 3 SYDNEY NSW, also 2 - P 19 OC 37. Isn't history fascinating - sorry, pix could be better but these taken 10.30 p.m. under electric light.

many thanks for the correction anglobob, appreciated - not an easy script to read - bit too florid for my liking, though I'm always a fan of cursive produced with a fountain pen.
