Hi All I found this when looking on the net www.investphila.com/allegatiContent/file/cat-12-Colombia-03-09(1).pdfApart from the dream for the collecting, its got fantastic pictures and cancellation types to help identify types and varieties ( these all appear to be authenticated) Its almost embarrassing to look at when i think of the gaps i have ....

Wow, there are a lot of stamps there with 4 and 5 figure opening € bids. Obviously there must be quite a few early Colombia collectors out there ...

Hi James
Nice auction of early Colombian stamps. Did not know about this auction house. Added to my list of Colombia references.
I collect early Colombia but, since I retired, most are out of my budget range.

Nice catalogue indeed. Great reference material. Don't worry about the gaps, enjoy the journey. You'll often see on these forums, a collector whom has "finished" a collecting discipline, say "Now What"

Hi All
Yes , i was doing a lot of research and noticed that the early years of Colombia has a huge amount of forged examples in circulation. So the value of this was the great pictures in this link plus the certification that was contained. Wha i have found it is so hard to find pictures of the early years , so printing these out will really help with identification. Being able to scan them as well and then overlay them onto my copies ( if i every fluke it, win lotto or double my salary ) will help with identification.
But back to 101, still arranging stockbooks and enjoying that!
Jerry B, good news we got the partner visa for AUS for my partner. She will be out here in a few weeks , which is great. Hopefully bringing the specialty catalogs with her , otherwise we will be in Bogota in Jan where i will hunt further . Rod, anything you want from there in terms of current issues? I am buying in some of the later issues and MS , its in pesos so cheaper than AUD and harder to get . I can mail them from here ( AUST) to you when she comes in? Let me know ( I dont qualify to sell stamps and i am not proposing this ( its a service for someone that has helped me) here so mods please forgive this post but its unusual to have someone come to this neck of the woods that can bring stuff over and mail order is not a safe option from there )
Yah its the weekend here !

Thanks for the offer James, that is right neighbourly of you. Alas! I don't buy stamps that way, I save up, then look for part/collections. However I do appreciate the offer. What you proposed is quite OK for TSF. BTW: The best forgery breaker, is to scan your stamps in question, then crop the image to around the frame of the stamp/s, then toggle between the images It'll locate the minutest difference.

Hi James That is fantastic and from what you said it was relatively quick. I year or more is usually normal.
I wish you lived in Atlanta and could bring my Barriga order. I still have to send money to the cousin. Once he gets it then I can place my order. I have to see about a "one time" credit card for payments.
I meant to ask. Do you speak Spanish?

Hi All
Hi Rod, could not agree more. I work for a company that amongst other things is strong in scanning , so i was hoping to set up something to have good image comparison. That's my Xmas project i think .
Jerry am over the moon on this one. The amount of detail and mental process this has taken has been truly extraordinary and i would not advise anyone to go through this lightly. On the Atlanta front , i normally fly delta into Bogota , so Atlanta is the hub . So in Jan i will be going via Atlanta . I go to Colombia twice a year minimum as i am in the USA for work a lot ( so its a cheap extension to a long haul flight)
I started to learn Spanish, then stopped but i know that i will be learning again when she arrives. Her criticism of me is that i am lazy in the language , and know more than i let on or use. But Australia is very small in Spanish, so in a practical sense you cant practice as much as i could in say Texas or Florida . I gather you do?

Hi James I come from Maine so we speak French because of the proximity to Quebec. I know a little Spanish but when I try to speak Spanish they relatives laugh and say I speak Spanish like a Frenchman. Maybe it is because if I do not know the Spanish word I will use a French word and hope that it is close to the Spanish. Someone, that speaks both, told me to add an o or an a to the French word and I should be close enough Are you saying that you fly from Australia to Atlanta to Miami to Bogota? If so, that is totally nuts. You are flying over the Pacific anyhow so go a little further South and you hit the Colombian coast instead of California. One year my wife went to her sister in Quito. The flight had a 3 hour layover in Bogota before going on to Ecuador. For her to stay 2 or 3 days in Bogota it was extra money. To make things crazier, to continue to Quito, she would have to fly back to Miami and take the same flight as the original, with the 3 hour layover in Bogota. I guess Delta is as nuts as American. It will be a necessity. If you do something wrong they, Colombian women, complain in Spanish. I my case I answered my wife in French but to no avail as the stream of Spanish became longer . Jerry B

Hi Jerry I took lessons in Spanish , however i never had the confidence to try it , except in cafes and even then the look of pity in the eyes of some that i spoke too didn't do my confidence any good at all So the good news is the flight is booked for her , she arrives Bogota/ Lima/ Santiago / Sydney route ( its only 24 hours ) on the 16th of September . I normally fly Sydney LA Atlanta Bogota ( there is direct delta flight Atlanta to Bogota. There is no direct flight Sydney to Bogota ( or Lima or Mexico) so we have to either transit via USA or via Santiago. Its crazy i look at the map and think why ..but then again its commercial and not enough justification for a direct flight. There is one thing worse i have found with Colombians and a angry/ complaining stream of Spanish..and that is silence,,,,, So the only thing I did stamp wise this weekend was purchase 10 kgs off paper WW from a local auction here ( deceased estate) in the hope that it is relatively unpicked and it looks to me like it was all thrown in as part of a estate cleanup. Very small amount in $ but should be a bit of fun on a rainy day . James
