Hello, my name is Michael. I came across a stamp that came off , cover and wasnt truly known as a grilled issue until it came off. The grill measures about 11x14 and there are 14x17=18 points. I cant identify whether or not the points ridges are horizontal or vertical. The grill is not in the best shape.

Michael, Welcome to the forum! When you get some time, please head over to the New Members Introduction board and tell us a bit about yourself and your collecting interests. It is difficult to tell from the image that you posted but it appears that the ridges are vertical. It would be helpful if you could post a clearer scan (600 dpi or greater) that shows the back of the stamp (one that shows all of the points). There is some good information on grills in the Siegel Encyclopedia -- the Z grill info can be found here. If you want confirmation, there are a number of expertizing services available (e.g., APS, Philatelic Foundation, Bill Weiss).

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

Note also that Bill Weiss recommends the Lester Brookman books as the best for information on classic US stamps, including their grills. The books are available free online in .PDF versions at the US Philatelic Classic Society's website. Ryan

Cant really tell from your image? We would need a better scan one of the whole thing and perhaps a close-up of the grill and a "points up" or a "points down" sort of description if unclear sort of information to tell. Welcome to the forum however! Nice to have you here. What denomination is your stamp? what kind?
