As a geek, I am big fan of using technology to supposedly make my life easier.
Lately, I've been trying to make sure that I "own my own data," meaning, I don't like my stuff sitting out there on someone else's server. For a while now, I have been trying to own my own notes. I've used Evernote and Google Keep, and, though they are both excellent products, my notes are sitting somewhere far away on a server. There's a convenience factor with doing this, since the stuff then syncs everywhere. But I like to create notes for things I don't want sitting on a server, like my bank account and routing numbers, and insurance policy numbers.
So, I discovered TiddlyWiki.
TiddlyWiki is billed as a "non-linear personal address book." The nice thing about is is that it's ONE FILE. It's one HTML file that will load in any browser. You create notes, you save them and they're all in this one file. Then you can take this one file and move it around on a thumbdrive, or even stick on Dropbox or Google Drive and have it sync across all your conputers.
And best of all, it's free.
You can create notes (called Tiddlers, in TiddlyWiki jargon) and tag them with categories. You can then search and do other cool things.
TiddlyWiki also has a bunch of plugins to extend it's functionality. It's kind of hard for me to explain how it works. The author has made an introductory video here:
TiddlyWiki's web site can be found here:

I'm currently using TiddlyWiki combined with Bittorrent Sync to sync the file across all my computers and my Nexus 10 tablet.
I have no affiliation with the program, other than being a happy user.
