Have these turn of the century era postcards in my Assiniboia Territorial collection. Interesting - 1906 cancels! For those who don't catch the reference, Assiniboia turned into Saskatchewan (mostly, anyway) in 1905. Ryan

This embossed "Best Wishes" post card with a Monticello, Illinois flag postmark dated June 18, 1910 was overpaid with a 2 cent carmine, perf. 12 Washington stamp with double line USPS watermark (Scott 332; Nov 1908). The message on the card reads:

I am getting old. While clearing the stamp table I finally looked at the packing zipper used to send those nice stamps my way. What a surprise two nice post cards depicting scenes of my local area.Haines Falls in a very popular hiking area six miles from here. There are numerous stories of this area. Many people have died and been injured trying to get too close to falls. The picture of the lodge is history of one of hundreds of old resorts dotting this area.At one time there was a rail service to get to the top of the mountain. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catskill_Mountain_RailwayThanks Z&D I'll make an addition to your intro page at the beginngs of the Funky Frog collection.

Not exactly vintage but for the want of a better place and not wanting to start a new thread, here they are. (I will move if a more suitable position is found !). I chanced upon these whilst sorting unwanted material earlier today. We have a lot of Bougainvillea in our village too !! It looks beautiful but spreads everywhere !!

I'd like to know why they picked those postcards for an Iwo Jima cancel. My guess, and it's just that, is that since Knott's Berry Farm and Buena Park (it's a city, not a park) are just north of Anaheim and Disneyland, and since Knott's is the other theme park in that area (and at one time didn't charge for admission or parking), that either there was a specific tie-in (like a group dinner there), or else was just a nearby excursion opportunity.
