As a distraction I started "working" on my mutilated postal stationery.I came across this term and as I understand it it is basically watermark lines added to the stationery to enable faint lines for handwriting purposes. My question can I identify my cut squares without the rest of the Batonne lines present ? I include the section from UNITRADE pertinent to these.(I did find a cut square U2 with a cancel)

Not studied in my experience. Here is what I have. In my postal history collection I have examples of batone writing paper, generally from before 1835 when ruling machines became more popular. The lines are enclosed by a rectangle as follows: ________ !_______! !_______! !_______! !_______! "Blair (TC)" <stannard@sonetis.com> wrote in message news:1158788613.155694.146990@i3g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... Bâtonné Thin 'bank' letter paper, designed for lightweight foreign corrrespondence, and watermarked with parallel lines to facilitate neatness in writing. Has often been used for stamp printing. Basically, it may be either laid or wove, its chief characteristic being the guide lines, which are normally horizontal, but may be found vertical. Laid Bâtonne (Fr. vergé bâtonné) a bâtonné (q.v.) paper which has the spaces between the watermarked 'rules' filled with the characteristic laid pattern described in the previous item on laid paper. - R. J. Sutton 6th edition revised by K. W. Anthony The Stamp Collector's Encyclopaedia Published 1966

A bit beyond my experience as well.I have noticed wider angular lines diagonally in the laid lines of the paper which I have assumed are the Barrone lines mentioned by "the" book as measurements of them match to givens. Please Unitrade some explanation should be included. You bill yourself as a specialist catalog should not a brief description be here?
