I recently found a cover with a bisect perfin. The letter was mailed 10 August 1935, so the period is later than the original post in this thread. I've been trying to puzzle out the company associated with the perfin. The Perfin Club has a nice repository of high-resolution images organized alphabetically, but my eye can't make sense of the perfins in this stamp. I'm including two images; one is the full cover and the second is an isolated view of the stamps in which I've highlighted the holes in a contrasting color to make the pattern more visible. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on what company or organization generated this perfin.

386 C&C Clark and Courts / Galveston TX 391 C&C Clark and Coombs / Providence RI
I tend to think the middle character is a stylized &. These are the only C&C I could find, but Newport News is not the right city.

I think I had missed two partial perfins on the left margin of the full stamp. Here is an image with those filled in blue and the stamp inverted to show what I believe is C&O, the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.

Thanks for the pointer to look at the Library of Congress archives. A great image to help with the context in which the mailing was sent!
