If you need to get info about US stamp and know the Scott Number, you can a lot of good information, including a description, by going here:

Just replace scottnumber with the Scott catalog number, and you'll be taken to the order page for that stamp. The order page has a picture and a useful description.
For example if you wanted to look up Scott #3000, comic strip classics, you would go to:
