didn't see a thread for Portugal, so here were are. Here's one commemorates the 50th anniversary of Ramos Pinto Port wines.
I do love a glass of port (or two) on a winters eve....and may very well have one tonight!

Saint Anthony - St. Antoine 700th Anniversary of his Birth, 1195-1895. This poster stamp, in French, celebrates the 700th Anniversary of the birth of St. Anthony and promotes a 'Marvelous' Festival in Lisbon from 15th to 30th June 1895 with 'Voyages at reduced prices'. Fernando Martins de Bulhões was born in 1195 in Lisbon. At the age of 25, he was admitted to the disciples of Saint Francis of Assisi and became "Brother Anthony". He became a great orator and preacher. In Italy, he was an advisor to Pope Gregory IX and was sent to Padua where he died on June 13 at the age of 36. He was canonized the following year. It was in the 15th and 16th centuries that his cult spread. He was then invoked to protect sailors and prisoners, but also to find lost objects or to recover health. The Italians dedicated a Basilica to him in Padua, hence his name "Saint Anthony of Padua". He was made the Patron Saint of Portugal and more particularly of Lisbon, his city of birth, in the 15th century. He is typically depicted holding the Infant Jesus.

Last year in the archives at the RPSL, I found details of these Portugal Tourist stamps which I had previously been unaware of. Photocopies of die proofs of the 4 stamps were in a folder containing many other photocopies of Perkins Bacon die proofs. A single stamp was engraved in each year from 1932 until 1935. There were not detailed in the engraving books and as no other records are available after 1930, I'm unsure who printed them but they are available from Ebay and Delcampe in a range of colours. Haven't been able to find out any other details.
