Gonna have to do some research on the Canadian National Express, I think a company which was part of the CNR (railway). Interesting COD cover postmark 1952. If anyone has any insights, I'd love to hear them.

These COD cards are fairly plentiful and go back to at least the 1920's as CNR express CNR EXpress was a major concern in Canada through the 1930's to 1960's as the highway system was not yet efficient. Most of these cards go for about $5.00 or less unless the stamp has more value The company had logging, mail, freight, refrigerated services in 1000's of location and had bought out many smaller freight companies Now the cars are mainly museum pieces Their offices built about 1908 in Montreal

but they have stamps on them, so, they carried the mail like an RPO, as opposed to being a carrier in their own right?

So this has been explained to me on SCF These envelopes went with COD shipments sent via Canadian National Express. The recipients sent the payment (the C part of the COD) back to the shipper with the envelope via the mail. Now it all makes sense to me!
