Issued Sept.10th,1963. (from a set of 5)
The Fire Salamander is on the brink of extinction in Germany and other european countries. The reason is a skin-fungus,what came,I think, from the Americas with imported amphibians. Other amphibians are affected as well,but the Salamander is completely wiped out,where infected.

Fossilized frog Palaeobatrachus diluvianus. Came to this world about 40 millions years ago. The last ones died out about 12.000 years ago. Stamp issued Oct.24th,1978. (from a set of 6)
