What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

Here's something that will be of interest to PostmasterGS - several rare stamps from New Britain (formerly a part of German New Guinea which was captured by Australia in WWI, now a part of Papua New Guinea) are soon to be auctioned by Eastern Auctions in Canada. The stamp shown below with the period missing after the "I" is one of only two copies known, and another item up for auction with a similar missing period is one of only three copies known. Only $21,000 for something with only 2 copies known to exist - sounds cheap! I'll be curious to see what it sells for. Ryan

Ryan , Definitely of interest, but waaaaaaaaay out of my league at the moment. The German Colonies are my favorite collecting area, and their occupations are definitely on my short list. Unfortunately, they're also one of the most difficult areas in German philately -- not due to quantity or even unavailability, but due to sheer price. The non-error version of that stamp alone catalogs for €10,000. One of these days... I'm betting that copy brings a pretty good price. This is one of those collecting areas that attracts not only high-end collectors of Germany, but also the UK, Australia, and Oceania.
