I can definitely say that Nanaimo bars (my fave), Butter Tarts and Sugar Pies are delicious. In the "you can always manage to find somebody upset about anything" department, there has been an uproar over the aforementioned Nanaimo bar stamp. Too much custard, not enough crunchy base GRAB THE TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS TONIGHT WE MARCH! Nanaimo bar fans going postal over 'impostor' square depicted on new stampI'll eat a Nanaimo bar when presented with one but I prefer the butter tart (especially its esteemed variant, the raisin butter tart) and the saskatoon pie. You can also find a "you can always manage to find somebody upset about anything" contingent who will complain that the berry is only properly called a saskatoon, never a saskatoon berry, which would be as silly as calling those red things a raspberry berry or a strawberry berry GRAB THE TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS! My parents have saskatoons on their land so I fill up on them every summer, and when that isn't enough, it's just a 10-minute drive up the road to The Saskatoon Farm, where tasty pies are to be eaten and friendly shop cats are worth seeing. For Americans wondering what on earth a saskatoon berry might be, it's apparently known in some areas in the US as a juneberry. Not all so different from a blueberry, highly valued by the indigenous peoples of the northern provinces as one of the very few sweet things which will grow on its own up there. And also for Americans, a butter tart is easily imagined as pecan pie without any pecans, just the gooey stuff for the filling. Ryan

I agree, Ryan ... that Nanaimo bar is out of proportion! The chocolate topping is way too thin, too much custard and not enough base! The artist must have been thinking what it would look like, instead of having one on display to get it right! When there is the option, my favourite tutter-bart has pecans or walnuts in it. Nuts make everything so much better!

I think this is one of the worst issues Canada Post issues of the last few years. As for the treat profiled, I have to say that I am biased towards the « Blueberry Grunt ». It was a big part of my East Coast upbringing. I still make it a few times a year for my self and to introduce it to friends. I use my great grand mother’s recipe.
As for the other treat, I would not say « no » to any of them.

Hmmm, just searched for a blueberry grunt recipe. Looks easy enough to make. I'll have to use frozen until fresh are in season
It does sound yummy!

Recent issue from Japan, as a self-adhesive sheet, celebrating the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" (in German, its name is "Nimmersatt" = "Never sated"), a popular children's book (and a favourite of my children's too):
The sheet contains two circular stamps and a butterfly-shaped one.

Recent issue from Japan, as a self-adhesive sheet, celebrating the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" It's good to see that Japan finally has a postal rate other than 80 yen! When the time comes for me to finally sort a country pile, I start with denomination. Japan used 80 yen as their domestic postal rate for years & years - looking quickly at my Scott catalogue, it looks like it started in 1994 and went on for 20 years with the same rate (and unfortunately for me, I think I have approximately zero Japanese stamps post-2014). On top of that, back in the days when the domestic rate was 50 yen, the international rate was 80 yen, so there's a bunch of stamps with that denomination from that era as well. With all the prefecture stamps that have been issued, my pile of 80 yen stamps is hardly going to save any time for me - probably almost 1/2 of all my Japanese stamps will be in the 80 yen pile .... So among the arrivals this week, the Andorran issues from the second semester of 2020. Nothing much in it to spark my interest, though. Another data point in my decision to hold out on further subscriptions. The one stamp that caught my eye was this one, from the Spanish administration, continuing the series on tree leaves. Here featuring the linden tree, named "til.ler" in Catalan, which is an nice use of their special double L letter "l.l", to distinguish it from the Spanish "ll" one.

We Catalans use the "l·l" digraph (is not considered a letter) that we call "ela geminada" (geminated l) to represent the sound of a "long l", like in French "elle". We also have the digraph "ll" (again, not considered a letter) to represent the sound symilar to English "y" in "young".
Spanish have the same combination "ll" for the same sound, but for them is a different letter: "elle".

This could be cross-posted to a thread about soccer (football, fútbol). However it is here because the stamps are an unusual shape, and the presentation is certainly unique. These are from Argentina.
