The 1/- value from the same series
I am at this time compiling an illustrated list of the railway stamps which will aid me when sorting and also allow me to see all the details grouped together
My guess is about 100 companies with at least ten stamps each (some have more but some are very small - so a base average) - thus at least 1000 stamps to be listed Started this today and got 160 170 177 listed so far ....
Once a decent amount of this is done - I will make the PDF available for review by members here ...
Any scans of GB railway labels that members can post here, with as much detail as possible, would be a great help in making the listing as complete as possible

OK ... progress so far ...
5 pages of basic introduction text in place
A list of 63 English and Welsh railways known to have used stamps compiled Scottish and Irish still to be added to the list ...
182 items listed and illustrated so far ...
New folder created on my PC for the details that are arriving via various sources ....
Provisional prices added for each entry .... this at the moment provides just a basic guide and will be revised as I check through information sent to me via dealers
The book is currently at 70 pages and as a PDF - naturally all the illustrations are of actual items in colour
Not a bad start for the first day .... busy day tomorrow but hopefully I will get a little more done in the evening

A lot of my limited free time is now being taken over with this project on Railway Stamps ...
To give you some idea how this will all look - a few snap shots of the pages for Barry Railway
Prices will be revised as more details come to hand ....
Pictures will be added as they come to hand ...
There will also be a great number of other revisions - such as the 2nd printing where no copies are known .... I am awaiting a scan of an item that is in collectors hands
Every stamp will be individually numbered and with luck, every thing will also be illustrated ...
Still a very long way to go ... but is should give an idea of what this will be like

It has taken years of rummaging through mixed boxes to collect these, however if I come across any doubles I will keep you in mind. That pdf is quite an achievement already.

If you were to draw a line between Beryllium Guy 's home and mine it would cut right through Bagley Woods, although I have no memory an old friend might. I will mention to him and listen to what he says.

A couple of Railway Parcel Stamps from the London & South Western Railway and the Kent & East Sussex Railway. As with revenue stamps, the pen cancellations can be rather off putting for the casual collector since they are very obtrusive. However, I appreciate that such markings are doing the job of preventing re-use. The first stamp is definitely of this type while the second item (more like a ticket than a stamp) is pen free but appears not to have been used.

Here are a few more railway stamps. From the North-Eastern Railway (sent from Pocklington) 6d, serially numbered. c1905, appears to be trimmed at the bottom removing terms and conditions, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway ½d and 1d, both serially numbered. c1855. The 1d stamp is perfined WHS/& S. This must be WH Smith & Son, newsagents, booksellers and stationers who still exist today on the high street but used to have newsstands at most main railway stations. They still have shops at Waterloo and Victoria Stations in London, for example. North British Railway twopence c1885 and North British Railway : Scotsman Newspaper Special Contract Label. Printed on newsprint. Many of these stamps were not well produced and are often found damaged.
