Souvenir cover from Capex '78
I also bought a gutter strip of 10 of this stamp. Probably the first time I ever saw gutters that I didn't jump in & get soaked!

More purchases from Capex '78. Why buy one single stamp, when a sheet will return so much more 20 years down the road? Well, not so much! Two Europa '78 sheets.
I really should have bought dealers stock!

Hey let's make this into something fun ... First person to correctly answer all parts of this question wins the stamp above! If you don't need it, you can name someone else to gift it to - anyone you wish - I'll just need their address. Postage is on me, of course! My treat! Catalog value $13!
Question:
What was the full name and title and Realm of the Ruler of Part of the Channel Islands who valiantly stayed during the German Occupation during World War II?
First correct answer wins!!
Post your answer on the board here so we can know which one came in first. Remember - you must answer ALL parts - full name, title and realm.

, philatelia ! Much appreciated. The Dame of Sark series from Guernsey was one of my very first purchases of stamps from that territory. Back when I was a teenager. And it is in reading the description of the stamps that I learned that the Channel Islands were invaded by the Germans (I had never thought it before). So it was easy for me to remember that the answer was on that stamp. For completeness, here is the rest of the series:

You know that is a quite impressive delivery time. I mailed those cards late on Monday, December 23rd. They were picked up in my mailbox, not mailed from the post office. The holiday shut down services for the 25th and everything is backlogged during the holidays here. Plus the 26th is a holiday in the UK, so the fact that it arrived on the 28th in the UK is amazing! I mean kudos to the United States Postal Service and the Royal Mail! it will be interesting to see if the strikes in France delay the delivery of hrdoktorx ‘s card.

Well, actually the Post Office itself is not on strike. It's other corporations which special retirement regime is being replaced by the new general scheme proposal that are striking (most notably the train workers). Add to this a separate set of actions (mostly blockades of fuel depots and "snailing" on the highways) by construction companies and farmers because of the planned removal of a heavy subsidy to non-transportation diesel fuel coming this January 1st (it had been postponed by a year last year because of the Yellow Vests demonstrations) and another languishing set of rotating strikes in hospitals that has been going on for several months as they demand more (well-deserved) resources, in terms both of finance and personnel. Actually, on Friday for the first time I saw some gasoline rationing at a local filling station, so the fuel depots blockades are having an effect. However, a lot of the local delivery postal trucks are now electric-powered.

I received the card with the stamps today. , philatelia ! I particularly appreciated the Victor Hugo issue pictured below, as he is one of my favourite French authors. P.S.: For those that wonder what the link between Victor Hugo and Guernsey is, he moved there in voluntary exile as a means of political protest after the quashing of the 1848 Revolution and the dissolution of the Second Republic in France. My favourite book from him, "Les Travailleurs de la Mer" ("The Toilers from the Sea") takes place in the Channel Islands and actually introduced a few words from the local lingo info formal French parlance.
