I do not think this site has been mentioned here yet but it really deserves a plug. Stampworld has put together a World Wide Stamp catalog that is free and truly amazing. You owe it to yourselves to give it a look here: www.stampworld.com/en/maps/Europe/

Thank you for that link, that is a very good site and only just new and probably will get even better!

If you run your own stamp website, beware of Stampworld. They lifted hundreds of images from my site without permission and have yet to remove them despite my requests.

If you run your own stamp website, beware of Stampworld. They lifted hundreds of images from my site without permission and have yet to remove them despite my requests. Intersting, I wondered where they got them all. As far as I know I have more images on the web than anyone so I imagine they have got some there also. Today I gave them permission (they did not ask) seems it may be after the fact. I really don't know why anyone would mind but it is always nice to be asked. Of course I would object to anyone calling them theirs and I never mind credit. There is a guy in Las Vegas who is putting together a stamp data base and I gave him permission to use mine quite awhile ago and I see him on my site nearly every day. The only thing I worry about is some crook taking them and trying to sell them online and rippin people off.

I probably would have given them permission had they asked and/or included an attribution. But when they choose to rip-off my content without asking, it becomes a matter of principle.

The only thing I worry about is some crook taking them and trying to sell them online and rippin people off. I've been in that situation, and that's why I try to watermark just about every stamp scan (and photo) I upload on the web these days. And AFAIK quite many stamp dealers / auctioneers do it too. It's not nice, but it's there for one's protection. As far as the site itself goes... I think it has some nice content, but also some errors. So it really can't compete with real world catalogues IMHO. Personally I'm also a bit worried about their origins / privacy policy. AFAIK some of the folks behind the site are of Danish origin, but coming up with real world contact details draws blanc. They do state a P.O.Box company registered in Belize. And their privacy policy allows just about anything they wish....Maybe it's just me, but I'd be very cautious of giving away any of my personal data on that site.

Wow you guys are really cautious! I really have nothing to lose and I still like the site. It has a wealth of information and images...wherever they came from.
Personally I feel that if you put images online they are in the public domain.

They swiped a few of mine also in the US section. Some specialty material. Which is really odd as my collection pales by comparison to most-who knew?

I didn't dive into that site very far, but I did look at the Spanish section. Several of the images are actually images of forgeries.

What I collect: Worldwide USED up to the 1960's, later years from countries that came into existence after then, like Anguilla, Tuvalu and Transnistria.

They use some of my Tuvalu and Canadian stamps, but I do state somewhere they are free to use along as credit and a link back are given, but I don't see that.
I agree with Perfs14 though, anything online is pretty well public domain

Protect oneself from what? I have my stamps "they" don't. I really don't go for all the fear fear fear crap in this world that most people seem to like to buy into. Myself I really do not have much use for the site because I am quite orderly and complete and I do have catalogs. My point is that I think it's great site for people who do not have catalogs or most of the stamps. I have only looked at a couple countries first few pages. I guess I'd be surprised if they had not used any of my images because it is probably the best place to shop images of stamps for the world. However there are specialty collections for most of the world out there and much better than my single countries. It really takes a lot of time wading through everything to find out if they have and I actually do not care. My site started out with the emphasis on sharing unlike many stamp grubbing closet collectors who have always been so secretive. They can use my images as well as anyone as long as they are not claiming them to be their own. Scott has fakes in their catalog as well and they do not seem to care when they are pointed out to them. For example: mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/samerica/peru/llamacomparison.html

Mitch, does your site have a page that links to this article? It's helpful, and it makes me wonder what else you might have on the site. But I can't find anything that links to this page! Google knows it's there - if I search for "llamacomparison" it can find the page, but nothing that links to it (which makes me wonder how they found it in the first place ...). Ryan

Ryan The main purpose of my site is to show stamps easily and quickly without any distracting componets. It seems that most sites I try to view are full of so much of this that I give up trying to find the stamps. A picture tells a thousand words so I see not much reason for a bunch of words. If anyone has further questions on a stamp or country they can easily Google which usually yields tons of info. The site is simplistic as possible which is the way I like things and besides that way I don't have to show off my HTML and other language codes which are very limited. I have many ideas on how to improve content on the site but the time required to do so makes it questionable if it is worthwhile, after all I get nothing from this and if people can't Google what they want, I don't consider it my problem I would like to make countries searchable by year of issue but I'm not sure how to do this without spending many hundreds of hours. There are only but a few of the comparison pages but I plan to make many more of them because it does not require that much time and is very helpful to all collectors. As Richard pointed out these pages can be found under the thumbnails of each page in the main index for each country. See the 8th page of Greece here: mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/europe/greece/greece.html

Mitch, your pages are great! I love the classic material, especially used stamps. BC Thanks much for the appreciation. I lived for many a year on the Olympic Peninsula about 20 miles South of Port Angeles. I was fortunate to visit the beautiful Province of British Columbia on many occasion. Victoria and Vancouver are two of the finest cities I have ever visited. Here is a page I do not have up on my site because it is rather pitiful but of course it is a very difficult area to collect. Unfortunately I have more forgeries than genuine. I actually prefer mint stamps (because nothing is impeding the design) the exceptions are nice S.O.N. CDS's or "fancy cancels". I decided long ago I would have to collect either if I was going to come up with a good showing

Ah, there we go - I knew there was a system! I had managed to browse pages that didn't have any of these links, now I'll know to be on the lookout for them. Ryan

Mitch, your BC page is fine, you should display it on your website. Genuine stamps are hard to find - I see some on your page.
While I buy and sell on eBay, I have not used the chat board for years, never really liked it.
