The early stamps of South-Korea are not that often shown. So I´ll try to show them,as far as I can,as I do not have all of them. Of the 56 souvenir sheets issued in the first Won-periode,I do not own a single one. Except of the 1951 Flag-Series all other s.s. are rather to very expensive. My best guess is,that amongst the twenty-five most expensive souvenir sheets worldwide, alone eighteen are from these early South-Koreans.The complete 56 s.s. might cost around a quater of a million US-Dollars.Slightly out of my range ! Here now the first stamp issue:
Stamps of Japan overprinted,under US-military rule,issued Feb.1st,1946

overprinted by error; There are two further errors: 10 Ch. on 8 S. and 20 Ch. on 27 S. According to Michel,of the 5 Ch. on 40 S. error one sheet of 100 stamps and 3 sheets (300 stamps) of the 30 Ch. on 6 S. were produced.
There are five more unissued values: 20 Ch.on 20 S., 50 Ch. on 50 S., 1 W. on 1 En, 1 W. on 15 S. and 10 W. on 8 S.

The 1 W.,2 W. and 5 W.were also issued perforated 11.No date of issue is known. While the 1 W. is rather common, the 2 W. and the 5 W. are not and are pricey.

one of my don´t haves: Inauguration of the first president Dr.Syngman Rhee, issued Aug.5th,1948. This is the most expensive commemorative stamp of South-Korea. It is amongst the many stamps,I sold twelve years ago, before moving to Paraguay. Illustration taken from the KPC - Korean Postage Stamp Catalogue.

The 5 Won stamp exists in two types. Left is type I,right stamp is type II.
Type I : top inscription is 9 mm, 1948 3 mm,periods in date barely visible.
Type II : top inscription is 9.5 mm,1948 4 mm,periods clearly visible. The whole appearance of type II is much clearer,it is either printed from a new stone, or a completely redun one.
Type I is rather scarce, making it a quite expensive.I could not find out the printing quantities. But of type I and II combined,50.000 stamps were printed. As type I is valued about five tmes higher, than type II,the printing numbers of type I must be small indeed.

The 14 Won exists in blue and dark-blue.Prices are the same.
In 1949 (?) the 14 Won was issued in ultramarin (bottom stamp). The ultramarin one is scarce and rather expensive, about 300 times the price of blue and dark blue. In selling offers it is often confused with the blue variety.

At least we can now agree that there are fibres and no threads. However this type of paper does not contain many of them. ... Three more examples of the Children´s Day stamp: The back of the lower stamp:
The red fibre at the upper edge is so thick, that it could be called a thread !

All these Korean stamps look like they are printed on very "soft" paper. They look so fragile.

The papers are of a great variety. Most are O.K.,but some are hard and break easily. But nearly all of the stamps are perforated rough and badly. It was a rough time for Korea in many respects.
