On August 15, 1964, the Canal Zone Postal Service issued a series of airmail stamps in 6 denominations, each depicting a different aerial scene of the canal. The places depicted start on the Atlantic side for the lowest denomination, and work their way to the Pacific side for the higher denominations. The series commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Panama Canal. Shown below are the stamps in the series. Cristobal Gatun Locks Madden Dam Gaillard Cut Miraflores Locks Balboa A first day item was produced by the CZ Postal Service, shown below. That folds out into a two sided sheet with history on the CZ Postal Service and the Panama Canal on one side, and on the other side, a map of the Canal Zone, with each of the stamps in the series attached to a spot near the location depicted on the stamp. If you click on the images above, you should get a larger version of the image.

I was a little pressed for time when I made the post above, and am adding this follow-up to provide more info on this series. The 50th (Golden) anniversary airmail series was issued on August 15, 1964, and was withdrawn from sale on January 31, 1966. All remaining stock was burned a few months later. The quantities issued (quantity produce less the quantity destroyed) were as follows for the different denominations: 6 cent | 256,629 | 8 cent | 3,923,721 | 15 cent | 472,102 | 20 cent | 399,220 | 30 cent | 203,960 | 80 cent | 186,245 |
For the souvenir folder shown in the previous post, 25,000 were made, and 7,044 (those remaining when removed from sale) were burned, leaving a total issued of 17,956. The stamps in this series were the last commemorative stamps issued by the Canal Zone Postal Service. (source: Canal Zone Stamps, G. Plass, et al)
