Hello Wert, having had a look at your images, very nice work by the way, I agree the small lines close to the original are poorly placed re-entries. However the large marks outside the frame I would have described as a plate smear or plate edge. The flag stamps look as though something has lifted the ink from the stamps, does the surface show damage when held up the the light as if looking for phosphor bands?

Correct feebletodix..Glad you brought that up. Was not trying to say all posts were re-entries...Just trying to bring attention to collectors to flyspeck what they have...To learn and identify possible re-entries. Robert

Hi Rene Your Scott 10Pv proofs are beautiful...The differences from mine to yours are the possible re-entries. See differences below {yours on left]
ROBERT
Tour dots and mine on the "2" and one have are the same...
Dots on "2" are equal....
No dot on "S" like mine.
No mark above "N" like mine.
No dot below "C" like mine.

The dots are pate markings for entering the images to the pate from the transfer die. As I explained to you on your similar Nova Scotia post.

images 5 and 7 look like marking out lines, from my school days we used to put a blue die on metals and scratch the design into the die with a hardened stylus. A quality engraver would have polished those out.

I agree with feebletodix. Keep in mind we are looking at plate proofs. While my knowledge of this issue is limited, one should compare with printed stamps and see if these lines were burnished away before production.
Edit: keep in mind these fine lines occurred on the original hand engraved die, then passed on to the transfer die which was then used to enter the image at each location on the plate.

Hi guys
Put this Scott 72p Newfoundland proof stamp out thereto see the expertise of collectors to recognize a re-entry or not. I have worked with Ralph Trimble who runs re-entries.com. about understanding re-entries.
I am trying to bring attention to collectors to be flyspeckers. {which i am an extreme flyspecker, good, but drives you crazy some times.}
feebletodix and jeffs, there is a lot to learn about re-entries...You both don't believe this 72P is a re-entry. Please go to link below and look at stamp No.4. Spend some time at his site...There is a lot everyone can learn.
Sincerely Robert
I have other re-entries on his site I do jeff on a couple of Scott 72 production stamps..It is a re-entry.

Robert, please do not ascribe an opinion to myself that has not been stated. I did not state I do not believe to be a 72P re-entry! You were advised that the feint lines were setting out lines when marking the design. That is the extent of my opinion and that is because of my experience in metal working. I make no assertion as to the veracity of your claim that it is the stated variant.
