This Jamaica KGVI stamp is Scott no. 122 and bears the caption "Citrus Grove."
Does anyone have a reference which identifies which citrus - oranges, grapefruit, etc. - or the identity of the grove if not a generic pic?
Thanks, Jeff

It would appear the catalogues can't agree on this - the Michel catalogue describes this stamp as "orangenernte" which means "orange harvest". Both Stanley Gibbons and Scott just refer to it as "citrus grove". Yvert & Tellier states it is "Récolte des Citrons", which means "harvesting lemons".
Maybe someone with more info can help here?

Judging from the size ratio I was thinking grapefruit. Perhaps artistic license by the engraver? Thanks for the inputs.

The woman is clearly harvesting, hence the Michel description. Scott & SG are simply playing it safe and repeating the text on the stamp, which has "CITRUS GROVE". If it is grapefruit, then designer has taken artistic license as the leaves are clearly either same size or significantly larger than the grapefruit -- and the woman is harvesting which means the grapefruit is good-sized. I'm not familiar with the local varieties of citrus grown in Jamaica, so maybe that's the variety of grapefruit tree they have there. The grapefruit trees we have here, the leaves are definitely smaller than the grapefruit (likewise with our orange trees). Jamaica does have a citrus fruit called the tangelo (uglifruit). The leaves on that might be the same or larger than the fruit, as it is smaller than the grapefruit. This is a just a guess on my part, as I have basically no experience in horticulture/agriculture. EDIT: Adding a link for ugli fruit.

Thanks for the background khj . It looks like the Ugli (also called Ortanique) was first submitted to the Board of Jamaica Agricultural Society in 1939, and our stamp above was released in 1938, which would indicate it wasn't that. This article which recalls earlier days seems to indicate the Manchester area of Jamaica was predominantly grapefruit and orange groves: www.jamaicaobserver.com/columns/Agriculture---A-remembrance-of-the-good-old-days_62559From here: www.new-ag.info/en/country/profile.php?a=856Some 10,000ha of Jamaica is dedicated to citrus production. Sweet oranges account for 84 per cent of production - the rest is made up by grapefruit, ortanique (a cross between tangerine and orange unique to Jamaica) and Ugli. There are 4000 growers, the majority of whom operate on a small or medium scale. However a major threat to the industry is the Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV) since the discovery of Brown Citrus Aphid, the main carrier of the virus, in 1993. A large-scale CTV outbreak could lead to the collapse of the citrus industry so over a fifth (2,833ha) of the citrus growing land has been replanted using certified material.

Two oranges-related PPCs of mine from Jamaica, perhaps useful for size proportioning:
