You can find them under Transvaal - used to be South African Republic
Lots of reprints & forgeries

marking Thank you again, I always assume when forgeries are present then that's what I likely have lol. Anything I should look for? These are going into the trading bins but I hate to mis-identify something.

I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss these . They look ok and not the usual area for forgeries , interesting but not hugely valuable for a forger . The postmarks look ok .

Anyone who believes only high value stamps are forged should read the accounts of Mirza Hadi who acquired vast amounts of these stamps from remainders and created a host of fake cancels He also encouraged the original printers (Enschede) to create unauthorized reprints (essentially forgeries) of all denominations as mint and with a large array of fake cancels Hadi ran ads in philatelic journals advertising his "great stock" of all stamps from Transvaal Basically the only way to tell them apart from the originals are from slight variations in the perfs. Forgeries from Fournier with and without cancels are numerous as well we have Spiro, Torres, Louis Pasche and Sperati with the better values The early stamps of Transvaal with the crest are one of the prime minefields of the period |
