I won this pamphlet in a recent eBay auction. I'm always on the lookout for African Philatelic literature and this looked interesting. After examining this wonderful little booklet, closer examination revealed some details that had me wondering more about the author and esteemed members of this club; "THE COLLECTORS CLUB". This was the first time I'd heard of them. The officers and trustees (from this 1944 issue) reads like a Who's Who of Philately mid 20th century (it most assuredly was). Alfred F. Lichtenstein, Harry L. Lindquist, Theodore E. Steinway. Many of you will recognize Reference books from these gentleman as well as the many auction catalogues that documented the sales of their famous collections. I found the following information in Wikipedia "The Collectors Club, often referred to as the Collectors Club of New York, is a private club and philatelic society in New York City. Founded in 1896, it is one of the oldest existing philatelic societies in the United States. Its stated purpose is "to further the study of philately, promote the hobby and provide a social, educational, and non-commercial setting for the enthusiastic enjoyment of our common passion". In its building at 22 East 35th Street in Manhattan, the club maintains a philatelic library of approximately 150,000 volumes which are available for research or study by scholars, historians, and philatelists. The Collectors Club Philatelist, published by the club since 1922, is currently published bi-monthly and contains scholarly articles on philatelic subjects." I'd be very interested in knowing more about COLLECTOR CLUB literature. I also wonder if there are any members here on TSF that belong to this club of 750 members currently? Here are the first few pages of this 1944 monograph on the King George V stamps of South Africa printed by the de la Rue company of London, England. I enlarged their logo and Officers List. Rob

Very nice pamphlet, Rob ( REL1948), thanks for sharing! I am not a member of the CCNY, but I have had contact recently with someone who is. His name is Richard Debney, and he is a noted expert on Cape of Good Hope Triangles and Western Australia issues. Thanks to Vince ( stanley64), who figured out that Richard was a member there, I was able to contact him through the CCNY website. Based at least on Richard's credentials, it would seem that they are still a prestigious group.
