New Crawford Hotel Post Card.
These are post cards from my hometown collection which is getting quite large! I will post them here as I get time.
This is the new Crawford Hotel that no longer stands. It used to be at the corner of S. main st. and Thompson St. in Jersey Shore Pa. (where I am from) It also has an Antes Fort Pa. Postmark and that Post Office is still in operation to this day! My Mother lives right next to it. It's directly across the street. It is literally someone's converted living room. It's very small. Obverse:Reverse:

A post card from my hometown of Jersey Shore, PA. in fact it's of a building that I used to live in! It was my first apartment actually. First floor and all the windows you can see on the 1st floor was my apartment and the building just behind that is my friend John Aikey's house! I had to buy this. By the way- The "Killroy was here" watermark is simply because this is the sellers image...lol I found on a local real estate dealers webpage that this building is/was up for sale. I snagged the images for this thread and my album until I can get back into town to take my own-which I AM going to do. Front view- Views of the front- view from the front porch- on the front porch- Out back- inside the front double doors-

The Hotel Leland, Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore, Pa. OK, as you know I'm collecting Picture Postcards from my home town of Jersey Shore, PA. and this is one of an old hotel that I passed every day for years when I lived there. It was a bar and apartments up above. The bar was called "The Hole in the wall" haha However my Great Grandparents used to stay there on and off when it was the Hotel Leland and I have fond memories of them telling me about it. I know that that the post card was literally sold at an establishment on Allegheny St. By a J. C. Mick and was mailed to an address in neighboring Williamsport Pa. www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?state=PAThe post card: Obverse: Reverse: Pennsylvania Lycoming County Vilas (1894-1912) According to the Postal Bulletin of that day, Vilas was a Postal Station connected to Jersey Shore. I suspect it was merely a section of the town that once had enough need for a post office of their own but later merged their operations with Jersey Shore. Here's an excerpt: This is what the Hotel Leland looks like in 2013 This isn't my Post Card but does show the Vilas Post office across the street from the Leland. I got another postcard given to me from Jersey Shore, PA. (I wish the C.D.S. was legible though) I really miss that place. Anyways, I used to live just across the street from "the Broad St. School" Now it's an apartment building, A very nice one at that. It was all re-done on the inside and out and the widows watch was put back on it true to the original. It's still a beautiful building and an interesting bit of town history for you. The town jail (back in 1900's) was located in the back side of this building before it moved to another building. That little nook is still there today bars and all. Here is what she looks like now.

indeed! Thank you both very much and, of course if your looking for anything in particular please let me know as well OK? Well... Nebraska always catches my eye, particularly my hometown of Grand Island and my college town, Hastings. Also, I think I'd fall over if I ever come across something from/to Elwood, Nebraska, my hubby's rinky-dink hometown. (I know I already mentioned it to you privately, but thought I might as well put it out here, too, in case anyone else sees something and feels like giving me a heads up.)

For being one of a small hand full of prominent families from J.S. Pa. it certainly is hard finding any definitive & concrete information on them! This is the house in which Rachel was likely born and raised in. I have found that this is indeed the same Martin family as told to me by Wayne O. Welshans (author of the history of Jersey Shore, Pa.) but I just can't seem to dig up that one critical document that links the H.H. Martin to either Rachel or Sarah but it's the same family and in the same time frame but 2 properties. There is one that's right in Jersey Shore (shown below) and another farm just a few miles(abt.3) just N.W. of town up Nice's Hollow. Time and further research will tell. * 1860 Census for Jersey Shore, PA showing that the family consisted of:James Martin (father), Laborer, age 69, suggesting his DOB was 1791. Rachel Martin (mother), age 59, suggesting her DOB was 1801. Sarah R. Martin (daughter), age 29, suggesting her DOB was 1831. Rachel E. Martin (daughter), Teacher, age 24, suggesting her DOB was 1836.Rachel E. Martin had been a school teacher and participant in the Seventh Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania State Teachers Association on August 2, 1859 in West Chester, PA: books.google.com/books?id=v-IBAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA75&lpg=PA75&dq=%22Rachel+E.+Martin%22,+Pennsylvania+Teachers&source=bl&ots=yvlu7YjaMd&sig=VxjQ6RyBTxlJ8Ir6rtlxqdBJOTs&hl=en&sa=X&ei=JRAzUtCCMtKl4APQxIDADg&ved=0CC4Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22Rachel%20E.%20Martin%22%2C%20Pennsylvania%20Teachers&f=false
Thank you WT1 for helping me dig this stuff up and for the stuff you gave me.
