I was adding catalog numbers to my Steiner Hong Kong pages for the litho varieties. Steiner provides a space for a $1.60 and $5 issue that are not listed in my 2016 Scott. I checked other online sources and do not see a $1.60 litho variety but I do see several varieties for the $5 in Michel (litho unwatermarked, litho watermarked, and then phosphor variations.
Can someone confirm the status of the $1.60 and what Scott now lists in a later catalog?
I also would like to know how to confirm gravure vs litho. The screens on these are coarse so the "check the smoothness" of the letter may not work. I went back through what I had and two ($1.30 and $3.10) have phosphors bands. This may be a clue too.

Well, through other forums I found a lot more information that I ever wanted to know. I discovered Scott's are not complete and/or not properly annotated. There was a litho variety issued in a prestige booklet so not very likely to find used. I was given this useful link stamp-collector.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=5&chapter=40 but it is missing some issues too. I ended up getting a tip on a series of articles by Daniel Tangri so made a request to the APRL (American Philatelic Research Library) for a copy. It turned out to be a series of five articles. I received same day service from APRL.

I hope you can find helpful information in the articles you got. Same day service is great.

I ended up modifying the Steiner pages to follow SG (numbers referenced are SG) with printer and phosphor types for the 1992 Machin series. I will use the existing pages for the booklets. Steiners seems to have one duplicate souvenir space that I will report. I also reported what I believe are errors t0 Scott regarding identifying litho printings as photogravure. These were mods done in LibreOffice Draw. Two good sources for summaries Daniel Tangri's articles in "The Bookmark Journal". 5 parts plus addendum Deegam Handbook, file located in Archive directory(folder)
