looking at a few definitives from the late C19 - first half C20 - as per the attached - it seemed there were perhaps more than the average quantity of examples of poorly centred heads - was this a case of the Canadian Bank Note Co. being especially guilty of this misdemeanor, or are there an equal number from other sources and I've simply not seen them.

Agree, although I'm not surprised due to the printing technology of the time, which has of course, greatly improved in our times, yes?

thanks seegod1 - I have a liking for some of these earlier C20 defs. - I like the colours too. I was sorting and it seemed there were more wide margins than I had expected, but then again likely I'd find bad centering in most countries. You'll know a lot more than me I expect regarding the quality or otherwise of stamp printing. The obvious off the wall thought would be yes, surely things improved, but I'm guessing:-)

I'm by no means an expert, but I expect that is why well-centered classic stamps command a premium.

paul1 real Canadian stamps, but not well centred......why show them Maybe there could be a contest for the Most Poorly Centered Canadian Stamp. Worthy of a booby prize I should think.

thanks for the comments:-) This wasn't really an attempt at serious philately - these things have been shown umpteen times before I'm sure - with extreme examples drawing massive financial interest - though these few have simply lost one or more margins and not half the image. But, I was encouraged to offer this show of misalignment by something I acquired a year or so back when I bought a job lot of States stamps - some quite nice material - and one of the album pages - as you can see from the attached - was devoted to "U.S.A. stamps badly centred". So I thoughts to myself well, if someone else has had a go then just possibly this is an area of mild interest. I'm waiting for other examples where the image has been halved, then I'll hopefully flog for mucho shekels. What can I say renden - errors, misalignments, missing this and that - it seems that there are hordes of folk who love mistakes and imperfect labels, perhaps these might encourage you to enjoy the 'faults' of philately more ;-);-). These things aren't faulty enough to really float my boat, and it's true that - in particular those folk in the Strand, London - make much play of a well centred stamp - I'll put up with a poorly centred 1c. Magenta any day if there's one going spare. I've no idea, but do people actually collect such stamps - judging by the States collector who put together the few Presidents shown here I assume they do.

Agreed all, although with respect to paul1 's (generous!) thoughts on my expertise on stamp printing - I.Know.Nothing.As I've said, I am definitely a hoarder of stamps (albeit enthusiastic), rather than a Philatelist, ya know? That's why I love these Fora... room for everyone!

hmm - agree, am sure the expression a 'hoarder of stamps' is a far better description for me too - I did think that fora meant you were keen on flowers;-)
