Yes the date punches are set at. 4. 5. 88. The fourth of May 1888.
These revenue stamps paid a tax on transactions , land sales, money transfer , stock purchase and were issued on stamped letter sheets . Yours has been cut off such a letter sheet.
There is a batch of six similar cutouts including another 2 shilling stamp as a Buy it Now on eBay .£3.95 for six pieces
the complete document would have probably fetched £15 -£20 unfortunately a single stamp is only £1 or so .
