I serious fail to see what the point of these issues are. Starting to remind me of Dune nations from the 70's. But, I will get the stamp set and the miniature sheet just to keep my collection up to date, but honestly, what is the point? shop.royalmail.com/special-stamp-issues/transformers

Well, given that Megatron had been teleported beneath London and came out to tear up the city, it's surely common sense that Royal Mail would remember the sacrifice that Centurion made in fighting Megatron to save London (or what was left of London). Some say that Royal Mail is just milking people for easy money. But that's just too cynical for me. k (who wasn't really into comic books and never figured out why his childhood friends liked them)

I good but sad example of why I stopped collecting GB stamps in 2000.
If you look carefully you will find in the middle of the 40 items you can buy, there is a set of the basic stamps!

I show below part of the second page of the information booklet provided by Royal Mail for this forthcoming , Transformers Issue on 1 September 2022. The 2nd paragraph details the UK connection, but sadly like so many other issues over the past few years I cannot see how this is a suitable basis for a new GB stamp issue. the reason for the issue is blindingly obvious - just a commercial exercise based on consumer statistics that says its popularity means it will make money. But why anyone would buy the set if they feel as elfstone99 does is a mystery - completist or not. But I thought that all model train set guys had to have a transformer.

What is the point? ££££££££ Why does the USPS issue a booklet for Harry Potter or now focus on comic book and Disney (or Pixar) characters? Buzz Lightyear has not been around long enough to be a classic. One would think they were Antigua and Barbuda.

Al angore I REALLY agree with you about the Buzz Lightyear issue. I understand that the United States Postal Service tries to issue something for everyone each year, but that issue reeked of crass commercialism. It feels like advertising or merchandising. Bugs Bunny was different - those stamps captured scenes from absolute classics. Who can forget the opera episodes? Those were pure, hilarious genius. But Buzz? Not so much.

I like them. I grew up in the 80s watching the Transformers cartoon. It was one of my favorites. I collect different stamps for different reasons. The Transformers, Bugs Bunny, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. I look at as being a fun reminder of childhood. Buzz Lightyear doesn't really do it for me since I was an adult when that came out, but I imagine there are those out there that appreciate it. The other point I wanted to make was the purpose of the stamp is for postage. When I sent a letter to a young stamp collector, I specifically used Sesame St and dinosaur stamps. I also gave a stamp collecting presentation to my son's 6th grade class. The kids were excited by some of the old stamps I talked about, but they could relate to some of the modern stamps too. These modern stamps probably have a lot to do with making money, but it's good if it can get younger people interested in collecting.

I was ok with one Bugs Bunny stamp and other Looney Tunes since they were truly classic cartoons that almost any age American would know. Now, Harry Potter, not even American, and Buzz Lightyear are very recent characters. I would put a moratorium of at least 50 years so even Star Wars would just be coming out. . But then I am not trying to peddle them.

I tend to agree with angore - I like seeing art, culture, and entertainment on stamps, including popular culture, but stamps for a brand-new movie like the Buzz Lightyear ones are a bit too much like promotional corporate products for me. Even a 25-year rule would make sense, I think. On the other hand, I think bcuddy's point about stamps appealing to younger collectors is well-taken. My kids aren't quite old enough yet to know or like characters like Buzz, but maybe in a few years I'll change my tune...

I will be purchasing some of the Transformer items, but it won't transform my collection a great deal. Sadly with the passing of Q.E. II my collection will be finishing after the last issue showing the Queens head on the stamps. R.I.P. your majesty.
