A nice little cover from Minneapolis to Hillsboro, ND, that was postmarked on this day in 1953. There is also a partial postmark on the back of the envelope. Inside was a short note thanking the sender for a birthday gift.

Whitley Bay RSO Northumberland JA 24 05 My dad's birthplace! He was born there 15 years after that stamp was postmarked.

Baltimore! Ceviche! On modern machine cancels such as the above, what does the "L" after the time stand for?

Hi Roman, and welcome to the forum! I am especially interested in seeing your John Paul II material, as I am starting to get interested in the stamps of the Vatican City. (Though I realize that many nations have produced stamps of this pope.)

This stamp got cancelled somewhere in France on this day in 1978. Perhaps even where BG is located. The stamp is Scott 1606, for the 50th anniversary of the Beautification of France campaign.

Hi Taylor, and welcome to the forum. My last name is Taylor, and when I am stressed out I go looking on the internet for photos of little bears (and tiger kittens). So, hey, we have a lot in common.

Hi David. I'm glad to see that you are interested in modern postal history of the US. I'm not very knowledgeable yet (I'm still describing myself as a neophyte collector - I wonder how much longer I can get away with that), but it seems like a fascinating and neglected area of study.

In Kiev, from whence this postcard was sent on this day in 2014, it is a nice mild evening. No doubt the inhabitants of the city are rejoicing, as Dynamo Kiev just beat Zorya 4 - 0.

I didn't take a very close look at this cover when I first received it, and unceremoniously dumped it into my "to be scanned" pile. Now that I have taken a closer look at the stamps, it has become one of my favorites. Stamps are: Scott 3265 - 1998 - Uncle Sam Scott 1480 - 1973 - Boston Tea Party - British Merchantman Scott 1481 - 1973 - Boston Tea Party - British Three-master Scott 1482 - 1973 - Boston Tea Party - Boat and Ship's Hull You see what the sender has done - he's used three of the four pane Boston Tea Party set and left out Scott 1483 - Boat and Dock. I love it! How "non-phalatelic" is that?

1999 SA Aerogram Heron I have fond memories of those and have many of them boxed up - my mother used to send me an aerogramme every week until her health made it difficult to write. (Luckily by then, Google Talk provided me with very cheap international calling rates.) I had to do a double take - I was half expecting to see my address!

I almost forgot about this one: a postmark celebrating the 1978 Jewellery and Arts & Crafts Fair.
I got lucky with a simple Google search and found a description of this very event in a 1978 newspaper: the Jewish Post of Indianapolis, available here. It's actually a pretty interesting read, beginning "Conjure up a vision of an exotic ten course Moroccan style dinner, served by Bedouins in a tentlike atmosphere..." Sounds most excellent.
