From Bombay (now Mumbai) to Hadera, Israel. in 1976. I like this one for the cool airmail etiquette as well as for the address, the lines of which seem to be in the wrong order. Stamps: Scott 720 (part of the Locomotives series) and 733 (Family Planning).
The law firm of Shah & Sanghavi, which was founded in 1966, is still in operation in Mumbai. Their offices are no longer on M. G. Road.

Four years ago a co-worker of mine was vacationing in sunny Hawaii, and she was nice enough to gloat via postcard.

Here is a sweet registered cover from Addis Abeba, Ethiopia to Akron, Ohio. Stamps are Scott 293 and 294. It was mailed in Addis on the 22nd of April, 1948 and made it to New York only six days later on the 28th of April. Impressively, it got to Akron the same day, though there is also an Akron backstamp for the 29th. Seven days from Addis Abeba to Akron - not too shabby!

Hi Alec, and welcome to the forum. My step-son tried teaching me Go a few years back. I could never really get the hang of it, and he beat me handily each time.

I love to visit museums whenever I get the chance, especially small local history museums. Once in a while I find something philatelic that may be fun to share, but not really worthy of its own thread. So here is a space where we can post those small, incidental finds. (Incidentally, I thought that I had already created a thread like this, but a search came up blank. If in fact I did already make a museum thread, admins feel free to move this post there.) Last week my wife and I spent a few days in Albuquerque for a friend's wedding. We were busy with wedding chores most of the time, but did get the opportunity to visit a couple of museums. The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History.I learned a great deal about the history of nuclear physics and The Bomb from this museum. Not much philatelic, except for this set of US Postal Savings stamps.
The Nuclear Museum was informative enough, but I really prefer the smaller, less professional ones. The kind of museum that is based around the idiosyncrasies of their curators. So the next place that we visited was the American International Rattlesnake MuseumIn addition to many tanks of rattlesnakes, other reptiles, spiders, and scorpions, the owner also has some fun collections of snake related materials. For instance, cans of soda and beer with snake names. And a nice collection of covers with snake related postmarks. I took a picture of each one, but the results were pretty lousy. Below is the best of the bunch - they are not very good, but the others are even worse.
Other cancels included Rattlesnake Buttes, CO, Rattlesnake, MT, Snake River, WA, Turtle Creek, PA, Rattlesnake, OH, Viper, KY, Rattlesnake, CA, Turtle Creek, PA, and Alligator, MS.

Just for the heck of it, here is my favorite part of APS membership so far. I love reading the monthly journal (and even the auction and other catalogs that I have begun to receive as a result of my membership) while I eat breakfast. Since I don't take that much time over breakfast, each journal lasts me a while.
I used to subscribe to the Sunday edition of my local newspaper (The Oregonian), but that was more irritating than entertaining. The American Philatelist is much more fun. And cheaper than the newspaper subscription too. :-)
I'm sure that I will find other aspects of membership worthwhile as I go further down my philatelic adventure, but so far I am grateful for some entertaining breakfast reading.

Here is another modern machine cancel, this time from last year in St. Louis. It went through the system at 8pm.
Hey, I just realized that the stamp depicts a cardinal, and the St Louis baseball team is the Cardinals. And now I am wondering if there are people that collect covers in which the stamp matches the mascot of the local sports team. Ooh, Royal Mail did produce a magpie stamp. Now I really need one that was postmarked in Newcastle.

This day in 2014 was a cold one in Minneapolis, my friends. Apparently it was only 20F (-7 C), with blizzards. But, as they say, what else is new? Question: what does the L after the time of day indicate? I have always meant to ask.

I have a very minor side collection of QSL cards. Here is one that was postmarked this day in Leipzig, then part of East Germany. The cancel advertises the upcoming Leipzig Trade Fair, which dates all the way back to the 13th century.
Here is the full QSL (click to embiggen). It was sent from operator DM3IGY in Leipzig to W3P11 in Pittsburgh. Are any of you ham radio operators? If so, do you still send out QSL cards or is it all digital now?

Here's one that was mailed in Paris on this day in 1966. The stamp itself was issued in 1965 and shows a boat on a lake in Aix-les-Bains. (Scott 1127).

As I write this, it is slightly above freezing in Eastern Maine. Probably at that temperature Mainers are in shorts and Hawaiian shirts. Last year one such rugged Mainer trudged through winter conditions to send me this:

It's really nice to see so many entries today - I wonder if it is a record. Not bad for a thread that will turn five years old this year. (Maybe we should have an online party when August 10 rolls around.) I will add two modern items to today's bumper crop. The first is a package from St. Petersburg, with lots of Kremlin stamps. For some reason I love those. And this meter from Portland, also from last year.

On this date in 1981, the San Rafael post office reminded us to support our lung association by using Christmas seals. I did intend to do that this year, but... forgot. Perhaps I will remember to get Easter seals.

On this date last year, I got an envelope that went through the Albany post office in the afternoon. Not the most exciting postmark ever, but it has a festive slogan.

This one was postmarked in Paris on this date in 1978, at 4.15pm. I like this one - it's a fun design. France Released 18 November 1978. Scott 1622 Aide a la Readaptation (Rehabilitation of the handicapped)
