I obtained this stamp in a lot I recently purchased. Trying to figure out if it's an actual precancel from Salem MA, or if it was homemade to look like a precancel. I haven't seen asterisks used before. Thanks for any replies

I usually collect US stamps but started to expand a little. I am checking to see if I am correct in identifying this as a block of 36- 1923 Republic of China - Scott # 249. I was going thru some old world stamp albums I had acquired over the years. I found this block of 36 stamps in between two pages. It has perforations on all sides so its part of a larger sheet. Am I correct in identifying these as - 1923 Republic of China Scott 249 ? Could anyone put an estimated value to this block ? It is M NH OG Thanks John

Thanks for the responses. I didn't think they were stamps since I couldn't see a denomination.
Rod222: I guess it would be more appropriate in the Phillumeny category.. Now there's a term I had never heard of . I am learning, slowly, but learning..

Firstfrog: I was considering going with blank pages and mounts. I have picked up an acid free art sketch book. Now the cover page isn't all that attractive but I like the thicker page stock and was considering putting my older WW stamps in it. Since they are blank pages I can display them however I wish. As for the mounts, I dont know if my collection is worth the expense. I may just use hinges. But that's going to be a winter project....if i get to it... I have 'big' plans but it never fails that something else will need to be addressed (ie.. roof shingles blow off : car maintenance etc...) before I relax and organize my collection...

FirstFrog : I have been buying stamps in 'lots' and at this time looking to purchase those that are included with Vario Pages. I then use the pages for the stamps I am collecting. I have also picked up 100 used manila-style stock pages to store some world and duplicates. I also have a few albums. The albums appear to be( KA 'shooting star symbol' BE ). I have been putting my older world stamps that I plan to keep in those. I believe my storage supplies are more expensive then my stamps.. LOL

Hello all,
I am a novice stamp collector from the US. Recently entered into stamp collecting after many years collecting sports cards. I have an interest in the Classics, mostly US but I have obtained some old worldwide issues. I have been lurking in this forum for a couple months now, and have received a much appreciated education. I have decided to join in.
