I got a few more Thurn & Taxis this week. Not a bad lot, just cut very small for me, but they were cheap enough. I just wanted them for their cancellation mostly.
Have a great day.

Thanks to coastwatcher for your post today. It is a significant day in US Marine Corps history! Interesting question, Al ( angore )! Like tomiseksj and mikeclevenger , I am also a USMC veteran, so I tried to check on your point. I didn't spend a lot of time on it, but it appears that the Marines did not start wearing camouflage uniforms until 1943. Just as an aside, and to the best of my knowledge, the word "fatigues" is considered an Army term. In the Marine Corps, working/fighting uniforms were always referred to as "utilities". I do recall from WWII photos that initially, Marines wore camouflage helmet covers, but still had the solid color olive-drab green uniforms. During my time in the Marine Corps, the solid green uniforms were referred to as "sateens". In looking at the image on the stamp, it is difficult for me to tell if the uniforms shown are camouflage or just solid OD green with some shadowing on them. Whatever the answer, it is an interesting historical point! The Marines , in general, wore utilities, some with camouflage, or netting helmet covers, throughout the entire Island hopping campaign in the Pacific campaign in WWII. But, the Marine Raider & Parachute Regiments wore camouflage. So, you will see pictures of both utilities and camouflage uniforms being worn in WWII by Marines. "Utilities" was the normal uniform worn by the majority of Marines in the Pacific. They say it actually blended in pretty good on the islands, once the original sheen was wore off, which probably too several minutes on Guadalcanal. LOL.
I am not quite as old as you, so I wore camouflage when I was in the Marine Corps (1981-89). I think they phased out the sateens, a few years before me. I still like the old "Woodland" pattern camo, even though they say the new digital colors blend in better. The new uniforms just don't look right to me.
Have a great day.

I could be interested on some early average-used Bavarian stamps, if I can afford them. Just send me you address, do you have any Bavaria yet?
Have a great day.

JeffS , mikeclevenger . OMG! Noooooo! NO decoupage before letting someone flyspeck them! You might own the VERY rare tri-nippled Botticelli nude variety from Upper Lower Slobovia! Ohhh the humanity! I am talking about using common US issue stamps. Of course, I would throw in a few #1 & #2 airmails and a few other old valuable stamps, maybe with flaws, just to make it interesting. I am going to cover the front of a 3' wide, 6' high cabinet that I keep my stamps in. She can't stop me from that at least!
Have a great day.

I bought another stock book full of Bavaria just to get a few stamps with wheel cancels, and some extra stock. (Like I actually need more!) so if anyone needs anything on these pages, I can probably help you out. just let me know. I still need a few of these, mostly just to replace mine with hinges for mint not hinged, and I do need some of these wheels cancels, but I have extras of all those stamps anyway.
Have a great day. Mike.

Received today, this exemplar of MiNr. 49a, embossed coat of arms Bavaria issue, 10 pf. red, with the vertical curvy lines watermark: (See earlier post for image.) Nice stamp. I have only found one of these so far, and mine is mint hinged. beautiful add to your collection.
Have a great day.

received today- slightly larger than 8-1/2 x 11... will make a page design simple, but quite challenging 1875 Sc#34 watermark 94. fragile sheet, some of the perfs have separated, so handling is precarious- but I like it! (See earlier post for image.) WOW! I am envious of that find. You rarely see such a nice example of old Bavaria stamps. It would look great framed.
Have a great day.

I also had contacted Scott to ask about this missing information. their response was:
"Thanks for your e-mail. We are in the process of moving our offices and all of our old catalogues are currently boxed up, so I cannot research this matter at this time. I don’t know if there actually was a Germany 708b that was listed at one time and later deleted. I don’t know if No. 708a was being printed after 1960, so I can’t automatically assume that the footnote was referring to this booklet pane.
Can you inquire about this in September, when hopefully, we’ll have the old catalogues back on our shelves again?"
I will try again in September, just to see what they say.
Have a great day.

Spurred by your comments, I took a look in my own Scott 2013 WW Catalogue. They do, indeed, refer to 708b but do not show it in the listing. I even skipped ahead to the section on 1960 since it stated that the fluorescent paper was used for that issue starting around that time. I found another note referring to 708b among other stamps, but still no indication of what 708b actually is. Sc708a refers to a booklet pane, but like you, I cannot tell if they meant that or if they are referring to another stamp. Or if 708b is supposed to be the same stamp on fluorescent paper instead of plain paper. But if that were the case, why wouldn't they put 708b in the listing that way? Bottom line: I don't know! There has been a line dropped from the catalogue, presumably accidentally, at some point in the past. My old 1975 Scott catalogue fills in the gap - back then there was a listing for both 708a (booklet pane of 9 + one label, 4 of the 10pf green Heuss stamps & 5 of the 20pf red Heuss stamps) as well as 708b, which was a booklet pane of 10 stamps, all of them #708, the 10pf green Heuss issue. Ryan Ok, with further investigation, with the info Ryan has given us, I translated the Michel Catalog listings for the booklet panes. The booklet panes, (708a), that consist of 9, 5, or 4 of the 10Pf stamps, are all non-fluorescent booklet panes. The booklet panes that consist of 10 of the 10Pf stamps, (708b in Ryans old album), are all fluorescent stamps. Thus, the 708a would be a non-fluorescent booklet stamps and the 708b would be a Fluorescent booklet stamp.
It is great when we all work together to solve a mystery!
Have a great day.

Been working on my Ohio Sales Tax Stamp pages again this week. But got in a few new books yesterday along with a great stockbook, which I will show contents soon. The books are a 1960 Hubbard catalog which I have been trying to find for some time now and 3 1980's The State Revenuer magazines as a bonus. Not a bad day.
Everyone have a great day.

Here is my sum total of maybe real, maybe forgeries I must say, a very nice lot of Thurn & Taxis stamps. They all look original except the yellowish 3, bottom row, third from left, it is a forgery. The rest are great examples of original stamps, as best I can tell from the scan provided. I compared them all to the forgery list and also to the originals, I have scans of. These are beautiful with some nice cancellations.
Have a great day.

Here are some T&T which have languished unloved in a stockbook since I acquired them many years ago. He, who could ID these, has left the forum ! so I don't know if they are genuine or reprints ( They have gum and if I read Michel correct the reprints do not have gum ) Good Morning. I have inspected these as best I can from the scans provided. The Southern District 3 Kreuzer, rose colored - bottom pic, may be a real copy, I just can't see it good enough in the scan, but the rest are all forgeries. I would think that the 3 Kreuzer is probably a forgery since the rest are all forgeries. The REPRINTS would have a large ND on the back and do not have gum. The FORGERIES have no markings on the back and do have gum, as they were meant to be sold as real stamps by the forgers. But remember, these forgeries were still made in the 1860's. Here is the best forgery site for Thurn & Taxis stamps: stampforgeries.com/forged-stamps-of-thurn-and-taxis/. Have a great day. Mike.

Got lucky this week and bought a rare and hard to find Ohio tax stamp. It is the State Auditor version of the Reserve Litho $1.50 Tax stamps. This is one I thought I would never get.

The difference between the two issues is that the second issue has small dashed lines where the perfs are. As you can see below, the left picture is Mi 40 and the right picture is Mi 50. The arrows on the Mi 40 show where the perfs have no dashed lines and the Mi 50 does have dashed lines. These are easy to determine which issue they are.

hrdoktorx - Very nice stamps, congratulations! mikeclevenger - I missed your fine post regarding how to identify the small and large eagles until now. That's quite helpful and saved for future reference - thanks for sharing When you look at as many of these as I have int eh last year, you get pretty good at it and try to figure out the fastest way possible to determine what you have. LOL. They are extremely hard if they have heavy postmarks and a hinge still on the back. Even after soaking, sometimes you almost can't see the impression on the back of some of them. But you can almost always see those areas I have the arrows pointing to, so that is what I came up with. I just hope this helps others in their quest.
Have a great day.

Well, I finally received a US Collection I bought about a month ago. There are some really nice stamps here, even a few that I actually need for my album. I got a lot more than I am showing, just showing the first few cards.
Only these 4 stamps have grills.
