The Souvenir sheet here not only commemorates the World Stamp Championship and Exhibition in Tel Aviv (2008), but also the opening of the Australia Soldier Park in Be'er Sheva, a centre point of which is the Light Horse Sculpture depicted on the sheet. The stamps can be found on a number of other Australian Souvenir sheets and also in Self-Adhesive format. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Light_Horseen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Soldier_ParkThe sheet reminds of the awkward moment at the Exhibition when I added Israel Stamps and had them cancelled at the Australia Stand........and got a telling off for doing so !! (Apparently, Australia Post do not allow such a practice). I have that sheet somewhere but cannot find it. When it pops up I will add it here. Just for the memory !

Another from the hand of Arthur Szyk and as previously, for the Emergency Committee to Save the Jewish People of Europe. These were printed by Herman Jaffe for the National Poster Stamp Society. Printed in sheets of 50. There are marginal inscriptions in the large top margin. All edges to the sheet are Imperf. I only have a single, my pension will not go far enough to purchase a full sheet, even if I could find one ! Most Szyk items have become very desirable.

Another one from Israel, this time with a difference ! The difference is the differences !! The sheet was free and small bundles were left in a number of locations around the Exhibition Centre. There were a number of subtle differences to a number of the sheets, some not easily recognizable when you did not expect it. I only show one here but will show all those I have (there may be more ) next time. It was a great idea by the organizing committee and now they sell on eBay for a few dollars and have become popular with collectors here as they chase completion. The thing is, no one knows what completion is ! Israel '98.

The stamp shown here is from the 1st Diaspora issue of 1943. Printed in Jerusalem by the Keter Publishing Company, it is one of a long set in different colours and designs and found in Se-Tenant sheets of 40. Long considered to be the best of Jewish National Fund issues and hence harder to find and costly ! The stamps show Jewish Life in the Diaspora during World War II. The central design is surrounded by the Twelve Tribes. Perf 10½. Previously shown in our Newsletter. The cost of these first Diaspora issues makes it difficult to form a collection. Finding them on cover and used during the Minhelet Ha'am period in 1948 even more so. At an auction a couple of days ago, these issues on cover sold for well over catalogue prices. They usually do. This one is called the Aleph Bet issue and it's from the German Central Office in Berlin. This 1945 issue is a reprint of an earlier Head Office set from the same year, one of which was shown previously in Yellow and Light Brown. This part set from Germany appears to be a much poorer printing to my eye. Each set of 28 was issued in booklets in colours purple and dark blue. Perf 11.

Not too much stamp time as babysitting still controls the days and the energy. But it is such fun ! Tomorrow I am going on a Railway journey to see some trains and railway stamps !!!
A large collection of Railway stamps has been bequeathed to the Israel Railway Museum and so I am off for a rare day out. The collection made the news here so hopefully it will be worth seeing.
Some good news regarding the mail. One of my auction lots I won back in late September/early October and which was returned to sender in Krakow, Poland has arrived in Israel. It took one month travel. But at least it arrived and gives hope for the others still missing. The rumour I had heard about Poland not allowing stamps on International Mail may well be true. The cover only had a registered label and nothing else so I assume that included the postage. I had read the rumour in the Philatelic Press almost a year ago.
Changing times.

Danish Propaganda stamps showing the swallow-tailed Danish Naval ensign. If I read the Danish correctly they are protests against the sale of DWI (Virgin Islands) to the USA in 1917 for $25,000,000 in gold Yes vikingeck, that was my understanding too. There is at least one more stamp similar to those but I have not found it yet. (If I did I would be scared off by the price, no doubt) Londonbus1

Another from the New York Office, this one in 1961 and again with different values. Apart from the usual booklets, this one also comes in special sheets of 6x7 and perf 11½. The booklet stamps are perf 12½. The stamps were issued for the Bar Mitzvah of the State of Israel and are inscribed thus. (13th Anniversary of Israel). They depict two Hebrew letters, 'yud' and 'gimel' as part of a Menorah. The letters have a numerical value of 13.

Louis Chambon studied Mechanical Engineering in Aix-en-Provence and made his name building Printing presses the first of which was for production of Zig Zag cigarette papers for a cigarette manufacturer. He built machines for paper processing and Rotary Printing presses. He set up his own company 'Machines Chambon' in 1887 and they are still manufacturing today after a merger, as Komori-Chambon.

1960 issue remembering the 100th Birth Anniversary of Henrietta Szold, and inscribed thus. The stamps were issued in sheets of 30, 5x6. Perf 10½. Exists also Imperforate but I have never seen one up to now. Born in the USA, Henrietta Szold was a prominent Jewish Zionist leader who founded the Hadassah Women's Organization of America. Later in Palestine she founded the Ihud Political Party and spent her later years in support of a Binational solution to the Arab-Jewish conflict.

Shown also in another topic but worthy of an entry here ? You decide ! "This is a Proof Sheet for the 1940 Penny Black Souvenir sheet which was sold by the organizers of the Adhesive Stamp Exhibition, held at the Bournemouth Pavilion from May 6th-14th. The Exhibition followed on from the British Philatelic Congress held at the Royal Bath Hotel, Bournemouth from May 3rd-6th. The Congress souvenir sheet also featured a Penny Black reproduction and to save money during wartime, the same plate was used. Both events were organized by the Postal History Society-President Mr.Robson Lowe !" Probably but not definitely by Waterlow. Scarce, or at least I rarely see one come up for sale. Someone else here has one because I sold it to him !!! I just love this sheet. Londonbus1

I have said many times that Terminology exists in different forms in different parts of the world. With different meanings. It's the same with colours....or colors ! ( ). There is no definite answer in my opinion. But I certainly understand your point of view.......no matter who you are or where you live. From my previous post. Gibbons......"Postmarks therefore include cancellations of all kinds." From Scott catalogue: "cancellations include both postmarks used as cancellations and obliterations intended primarily to cancel (or "kill")the stamp. So that's it, all sorted. I'm off to sort my PNC's !! Londonbus1
