This thread was originally titled Orco Expo: Anaheim California: 6-8 January 2023, and it has been repurposed on 10-Jan-2023 to post the schedule for all of 2023, and it will be a location where members who attend the shows can post photos or comments.
I recently received a notice in the mail for this upcoming show, so wanted to alert TSF members in case of potential interest: Orco Expo Stamp Show Brookhurst Community Center 2271 Crescent Avenue Anaheim, California 92801 Dates and Times: - Fri-06-Jan from 10am-6pm
- Sat-07-Jan from 12pm-7pm
- Sun-08-Jan from 10am-4pm
Organizer's website: www.stampshowsteve.comI am thinking seriously about attending, and I would be delighted to meet up with any other TSF members who would be interested.

Just giving this thread a bump since the show is now just a few days away.... Aside from Dave ( Philatarium) and me, I was trying to think who else might be within driving distance for this event, but no one is coming to mind. I had recalled that Michael ( mdroth) had relocated to Southern California some time ago, but I recently learned that he has relocated out of the area since then. So, are there any other TSF members in So Cal? If you're out there, please consider responding to this post!

I'll be there. The stupidest thing with this bourse is they are advertising "free if you sign up!" I contacted Dave and apparently, the only place to sign up is at the show itself. What is the point of that, exactly? It's another case of someone living in the 80s, refusing to move into the Internet age.

Just giving this thread a bump. Dave ( Philatarium) and I have discussed, and we are planning to meet at the show tomorrow morning, hopefully around when it opens. After that, we will both decide whether it is worth it to go back on Saturday or not. Dave tells me that he thinks that the Orange County Stamp Club should have a table there, so I will probably visit them and consider signing up. I have already contacted the Riverside Stamp Club and have been invited to their next meeting on the 17th. I will try to take some photos at the show and make a couple of posts.

First Day at Orco Expo Anaheim, CaliforniaIt was a dry, sunny day in Southern California today, so not bad for driving out to Anaheim, which is about 30 miles (48km) from where I now live. It has been pouring rain for the past couple of days, so it was great to have a break from that for being on the road. The show opened at 10:00 PST, and I arrived a little after 10:30. As it happened, Dave ( Philatarium ) had just arrived shortly before that, so we were able to meet up relatively easily. Orco Expo isn't a huge show, but there are about 20 dealers, and the floor of the bourse was quite active today. I saw several dealers whom I have dealt with in the past, especially some who also attend Westpex, which happens in the SF Bay Area. Below are a couple of photos that I took from the entrance to the show, one taken in each direction. It was a good first day, and I am planning to go back again tomorrow, as one of the dealers has promised to bring some additional stock for me to see.

Orco Expo First Day PurchasesI didn't buy very many stamps yesterday, but I did find these packets in one of the dealer's bargain bins. He had everything priced at $1, $2, or $3. I was especially happy with the Eritrea overprints. I have also checked those on Morten's ( classicalstamps) website, and the overprints look genuine. I will get these organized for scanning later and make some proper posts in due course, so this is just a preview. I am headed back to Anaheim in another 30 minutes or so.

We went a little overboard at the show but it's always better, IMO, to see the stamps in person before you buy than to keep your fingers crossed with stuff online. It's really too bad that shows are going away, even though Steve tries to keep them going as best he can. They had a Grenada souvenir sheet overprinted with the Orcoexpo information and clearly they didn't sell much on Friday because Saturday, they were just giving them away. I thought it was a little weird not to have an official post office presence, although Steve only had about 2 months to put the whole thing together and maybe it was a scheduling conflict. Still, when we were at SESCAL, they had the post office there and I never saw anyone go over. Maybe it's because all modern stamps suck?

I do not like the designs but people are forced to buy complete sheets so around $12 for any issue. I suspect many do not want modern postage since they may have older postage (some purchased below face) to use. The interesting aspect is that most of what is being "honored" do not even show up in any past or be in future history books - like the 2023 issue on skateboards.
I get that some like pretty stamps (flowers, etc).

I'm not. I stopped collecting U.S. issues in 1993 so I didn't have to deal with self-adhesives and the modern boom of Photoshop stamps. Nobody is forced to buy anything they don't want to buy.

Wrap-Up on Orco Expo 2023On the second day of the show, I spent virtually all of my time with one dealer, who did me the honor of letting me be the first person aside from himself to see his 19th Century collection album. He has some very nice stamps in there. As he is now in his 80s, he has decided to start selling from that album, and I bought a couple of stamps. Overall, it was a good show for me. It ended up being much more focused than I had envisioned, but that is just how it went. Since Brian ( Cephus) mentioned the Orco Expo souvenir sheet, here it is below. Grenada Carriacou & Petite Martinique, Seabirds of the Carribean Souvenir Sheet, two stamps denominated at $8 each. Overprinted: "ORCOEXPO" STAMPSHOW RETURNS ANAHEIM, CA JAN 6-8, 2023 After this post, I am planning to repurpose this thread to show the calendar for all of the upcoming stamp shows in Southern California for 2023, so stay tuned for further updates, probably later today.
