Howdy!
we are Bob and Liz from Michigan, U.S. We have decided to collect stamps. We were going to wait for grandchildren but decided that would take too long. We are starting from scratch and awaiting some supplies, but spent our first afternoon soaking stamps off paper. We will be collecting world wide, used stamps. We have already learned a lot reading threads here and look forward to learning even more!

Welcome Bob and Liz, I am Darrin (darkormex) and I live in Grand Rapids. What part of the mitten are you from?
***For those who don't know what I am talking about, people from Michigan commonly use their hand as a map because our state is shaped like a hand or mitten.***

Hey, welcome! Ask anything you want here; I've never seen a snobbish reply anywhere on this board. Where were the stamps you were soaking today from?? I'm nosy curious: what caused you to choose to collect stamps?

Welcome to the most friendly forum. Also welcome to one of the best hobbies in the world. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be and there are no rules you must follow. Collect what you want how you want it.
Seems your already meeting mitten friends LOL love the concept if from NJ I would ask what exit....

Hi philatelia
What is one to see with the bass player other than exuberance?

What I collect: Used only - Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, Western Europe, and Scandinavia, from 1900 to date. That keeps me busy. To be honest I am trying to avoid becoming a WW collector.

Welcome! It is a wonderful hobby. Been doing it on and off for 60+ years. Picked up the itch from my dad who started when he was a boy. I now only sell, but it is as fun as collecting. However, I don't mind the possibility of putting a few more bucks in the canteen. We live in Toledo, but have a place on a nice trout stream near Luzerne, Michigan. Have fun!

Welcome lizandbob ! I’m Jean from Lower Sackville (just north of Halifax), Nova Scotia, Canada. I, too, am curious why you decided to take up stamp collecting? Wishing I could get my detailed oriented history buff Hubby interested! 😄. He’s more interested in family history at the moment. There are a lot of resources on the Internet. You can checkout YouTube “Exploring Stamps”, “Ted Talks Stamps”, or “Mallard Stamps”, just to name a few. As you’re American, I’d start by joining the APS (American Philatelic Society). They have an entire educational section on their website for members. And they really start with the basics. Hope to see you around! Take care! Jean
