A very informative blog for someone unfamiliar with these issues (such as me)

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I agree with JeffS that this is a very informative blog. I am somewhat informed about the issues though in that I have accumulated a lot of them. At the time when I did I spent time identifying them and mounting them in the appropriate order. What I found encouraging was to discover that I should not be so disheartened with the centring and heavy obliterations because this is more the norm. That is not to say one should not be looking for well centred clear images. Thanks for the post.

Although I don't collect Great Britain, this was a very interesting and informative article, like all the others that are posted on your web site, for that matter!
Thank you Chris!

Thanks Guys! I am glad you are enjoying my posts. They are taking a LOT longer to write than I think they will. I started this one yesterday morning at 9:00 am with a large cup of Timmies in one hand and I didn't finish it until well after midnight. Just gathering all the images to illustrate each thing and then making the lists and describing everything takes a surprisingly long time, and I didn't even make a table for all the plates. I guess that will be for another week when I add to the post.
Next week will be something completely different: modern sealed packages of Canada Post plate blocks from the 70's through to the 2000's. I bought several hundred of these as I have been studying them for a while. The cardboard inserts came with different designs and different versions of the same design. There are at least 6 different basic designs, some of which were extremely short lived. But what appears to have happened is that if a design change was made when an issue was current, that issue may be found to exist with as many as three different designs. So the question arises, which one is scarce and which are common? Often the same design will have text on 2 lines instead of one line, or a different font used for the numbers denoting the face values - all things that you would completely miss if you only ever had a few of them to look at at a time. But when you have hundreds to look at these differences become apparent. So, that's what I will be writing about next week.

I was the lucky winner of the three GB embossed stamps Chris auctioned a few weeks ago and have since added a 6 penny.
