Hi All,
For storing single stamps, what's everyone's preference when using dealer cards, the 101 size or the 102?
The 101 size sure saves a lot of space...but the 102 size seems easier to handle for me as its larger, and there's also storage boxes available.
What size is everyone else using?

Never knew they had size numbers…….. I only use them when packing eBay lots off that I have sold .
But then I collect on my own printed pages, store spares in stock books, list for sale items on Hagner sheets and use the cards for postage. Size is not critical to my purpose..

I'm a new stamp collector, and when i receive stamps from ebay etc, many of them come in dealer cards. I didn't know what they were called either, but eventually stumbled upon their name. Here's a picture of them. the smaller 101 size in the upper left, and two 102 size ones to the right and below. Here's a picture from ebay of a seller selling 1000 of the 101bk (bk stands for black) cards in what looks like a baseball card box. But i can see that this box is too wide for the cards, and the seller has filled it with some type of stuffing to take up the space.

I use both and usually buy direct from a Canadian supplier. « use them to store my stamps before I mount them. Easy to add catalogue number. So when I ever get something from our friend « renden ». This is where they go.

Are you only comparing the 2 sizes? What about the 104 107? But that said I just pick by number of stamps or size of the block or sheet.

I use 104 in colors - white, pink, green, blue. Pink is MNH, Blue MH, Green various, White used singles. But these are for DUPLICATES. My collection is on Hagnar and Vario sheets. I tried 102s but they were too small for too many items and for quantities. The box in pic is only a shipping / sales box. Storage boxes, commonly called "red boxes" are made for each size and are found in two colors, red and black. Here's a pic of some of my "red" boxes ...

exwhyzed I use the 102 for single stamps. philatelia I am super impressed by this glimpse into your stamp room! My collection - stamps, books and all - is 6 linear feet and a storage bin at the end of an old IKEA coffee table!

I ended up with 107 since I was storing plate books but I usually keep every card I receive so have a box of mixed sizes. I see them more for storage of spares, etc. rather than using as an organized collection method. I do like the aspect that you can write on them and reuse if use a pencil.
If I think about archival, I wonder if the black ones are really good for contact with stamps long term. ]

I get them once in a while. I usually stuff them full of the same series or whatever, just to keep them from blowing around. Just temporary homes, or whenever I get around to them.
I use them in my give away's too, but not for display.

Thanks for your original post, exwhyzed. I use the 102 cards, but only for organizing duplicates and sending stamps to others with identification marked, which I can easily do on the top of the card. I also write on them in pencil, like Al, for the same reason. Al, I have had some stamps stored in these 102 cards and other sizes too, for more than 10 years, and I have never seen any issues with condition due to the black background. That said, one of my friends who uses these even more than I do says that he thinks that the white cards are better.

Thanks for the replies all! I can see that its really dependent on what's being stored (e.g. blocks of stamps or larger quantities need bigger sizes).

I tried 102s but they were too small for too many items and for quantities. Like Terri, I use red boxes in quantity, but mine are almost all for the 102 size. I use glassines for any stamps which I have in too much quantity to fit in the 102 cards. I do have a handful of 104 boxes - I placed one of them on the top of the pile here, you can see that it isn't too much bigger than a box for 102s. Ryan

Ha! Ha! I thought I had a lot of stamps with my dozen boxes! After seeing philatelia and Ryan I guess i'm good for a few more years of collecting! In any case, I use 102 cards, glassine envelopes for the bigger items and Vario pages for the oversized.

Sticking one of the cards on the end of the box to enable slipping in a changeable piece of paper to use as a box label is a nifty idea.... I hadn't thought of that. Thanks, Ryan and Terri ( philatelia)!
