1996 Postal Centenary Perf 13.25 Miniature sheet CV : $2 Gentlemen unknown. On the right is Deng Xiaopeng - you could make quite the topical collection with all the stamps that were released by various countries targeting the Chinese collectors' market in the 1990s! On the left, perhaps Jiang Zemin? Ryan

Thanks, Ryan, Had Deng correct, did not recognise the other, and wasn't confident enough to speculate.
The market for stamps is one consideration, however China have vast interests in Africa, which may be another. Creates gossip around my parts too, the Chinese are purchasing quite large farm interests.

Here's the start of a comical topical subject, "Olympic events that didn't happen". Skeleton was a sport in the 1928 & 1948 Winter Olympics, both of which were held in St. Moritz. It didn't reappear in the Olympics until 2002. But that didn't stop Chad from releasing a stamp to commemorate the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo which features the old-style version of skeleton as it looked in 1948. This old method of sliding with the hands forward still exists only in St. Moritz and is known as Cresta, differentiated from the modern evolution known as skeleton which has the hands back by the slider's hips. Note for keeners: there are stamps from Upper Volta and Sharjah which also show Cresta sliding, with the stamps commemorating Olympic Games which never held the event. You can also find a few bobsleigh stamps for the 1960 Winter Olympics - the organizers in Squaw Valley didn't want to bother themselves with building a track so bobsleigh was missing from those Olympics. This week's finds also included the 10 and 20Fr issues from this early definitive issue from the Chad Republic, issued in 1961-62 (YT #66-78). Noteworthy is the cancellation on the 10Fr issue, from Brazzaville in the former French Congo. Maybe the stamp was misused or mailed from the Chadian embassy in the Congo?

Hi Rene, You're absolutely right they are Leopards. Funny thing happened, I was watching "Animal Planet" while I was writing you and they were showing an episode about Bengal Tigers, I guess I went with their influence. I'm easily distracted these days and have to remember to take my meds... (LOL)

The Chad pages with the copyright notice look identical to Steiner pages.

Before I found Steiner, I found some company selling album pages for single countries. I thought, "Great, just what I need!" Then I saw Steiner. Exactly the same except for the copyright notice! What a scam that is! I'm glad I didn't buy any more from them!
