From about 1800 to 1814 many regions in northern and central Italy were occupied by Napoleon and became part of the French Empire.
The “Départements” received a number and were often named, as usual in France, by the name of the main river of the region. Some stampless covers from Turin (“Po” 87), Florence (“Arno” 112) and Rome (116).
The composer Giuseppe Verdi was born near Parma (Taro “111”) on 10th October 1813 and then he was born as a French citizen. After the defeat of Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna everything changed.
I collect documents of the Italian “départements conquis” and of the first Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814) also created by Napoleon.
