I recently received the cover below. It appears like it went via airmail [but I am far from certain about that] from Fuime Veneto, Udine, Italy to Venezuela starting on the 10th of October, 1931. I see a lot of Italian postmarks e.g, Torino and Milan but no receiving marks from Venezuela. Is this normal? Or am I misinterpreting something. I see 7.95 Lira on the cover which seems like a lot but maybe was not.

I believe you have misread the red 2-lire stamps as 1 lire. 13.72 lire total franking.

13.95
I don’t know if the postal rate could be good or not, but as for the arrival postmark, it seems a regular mail, not registered, and it could be it is not cancelled at the arrival. Fiume-Udine-Pordenone-Venezia-Milano-Torino
Nice letter, when Fiume was still an Italian town

Yes, I did misread the franking. Thanks for that correction.

The envelope is in the correct rate for a three-port missive. 1.95 airmail plus 4 lire each for every five grams of weight. So the bag weighed more than 15 grams.
The absence of the postmark of arrival in Venezuela I don't know if it's normal but it doesn't surprise me, I remember something similar but I don't remember where.

I don’t have books regarding postal rates in the kingdom of Italy, so I was looking on internet, but I couldn’t find a reference table. Thank’s to rex for the explication. Still 1931 is in the early period of airmail, and your letter is nice and interesting. Nice catch
For what it could worth, in my opinion it is a genuine letter, sent from Tomaso to Raimondo Tamai, probably familiars, brothers or father-son. I will not give so much importance to the lack of the arrival postmark

Interesting series of transit marks on the reverse
Mailed on 2. 10. 31 I was confused by two of the strikes which seemed to show. 2 .011 .31 till I realised it was. Still 2. OTT ( Italian OTTOBRE ) ..
AMB. uDINE- VENEZIA. Ambulante =. Mail sorting carriage TPO
VENEZIA - MILANO Another railway cancel
MESS. MILANO- TORINO. A 3rd rail journey Maybe one of our Italians can explain. “MESS.” ?
Then TORINO FERROVIA. ESPRESSI TORINO Railway Express. To connect to airmail
Almost certainly not a direct flight to Venezuela . So I would have expected other transit marks to suggest routing
Who was flying South Atlantic route in 1931 via. Dakar to Brazil , or North Atlantic via USA?

MESS. Treno Messaggere
Now don’t ask me the exact difference between AMB and MESS The second one should be an auxiliary service
From Milan the postmark is 3 oct so the 2 oct the letter arrived from Fiume to Milan and the following day it has been delivered. Pretty impossible to get the same today…

MESS. stands for 'Messenger'. They were like postal trains with AMBULANTE cancellation, the difference was that Il Messaggero could not accept valuables, registered and insured mail.
