Hi Jens Jens Madsen, I have one of those too. These date back to the Italian coin shortage of the 1970s. It would appear that the Italian mint was not able to keep up production of 50 lire and 100 lire coins between 1975 and 1979 and so, shops became creative giving out encapsulated stamps, telephone coins, sweets etc. instead. I was there in 1977 and saw a variety of items. There were even local low value paper notes produced, I have examples from Venice and Bologna. If I find them I'll post pictures. Daniel

Jens Madsen , only 11 months later, I found my notes mentioned above. According to Numista website, they are described as "Assegno or Aassegni - mini-check(s) - a type of Italian Notgeld created in the mid-1970s due to a shortage of small-denomination currency. A total of 42 banks issued mini-checks." The translation reads: The Italian Credit Limited Company, headquarters in Genova, will pay 100 Italian Lire for this cashier's check on sight. These are for Venice and Bologna.
