Some stamp design are just hilarious. This one from Tanzania show the founder and first president of the Afro-shirazi party in Kenya, Abeid Karume with an with an ax handle through the head!

The guy,Sheik Karume, was not hacked to death,as the stamp might suggest, but he was shot.

The yellow "hoe" is the central symbol on the tri-color flag of the Afro-Shirazi party -- it isn't intended to portray the manner of death.

it isn't intended to portray the manner of death. I suppose they could have moved Sheikh Karume off to one side and/or the mighty axe to the other, just to make it a little clearer. But here's my contribution for the day. Something about the floating-head motif makes me more than a little uneasy. I've got quite a few ugly stamps around here. Check this space, in fact, for more floating heads! tobben63 may or may not rue the day he started this thread up.

This stamp honors the cosmonauts Andriyan Nikolaev and Pavel Popovich, who went into space in 1962 on Vostok 3 and Vostok 4 respectively. Nikolayev, who was launched first, completed 66 orbits. A fascinating article about the turbulent behind-the-scenes activities is on the Russian Space Web. The space flights were spectacularly successful. But something went wrong with the stamp. Can you tell what it was?
