North West Pacific Islands"N. W. PACIFIC ISLANDS" overprinted on Stamps of AustraliaNew Guinea: Stamps of the Australian Military AdministrationThe image below is taken from a post by pilot, originally made in another thread, here: thestampforum.boards.net/post/99739/threadNow that we have a dedicated thread for the stamps of the North West Pacific Islands, it seems appropriate to recreate this post here. Many thanks to pilot for creating these great posts in the first place and sharing them with us here on TSF. They are a true philatelic resource for all of us.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

While mounting a few Norfolk Island stamps this evening I took some time to look at some other British Oceania countries in my dad’s collection. There is a good representation from the short lived N.W.P.I.. I probably have added a few over the years. Sadly the high values are not there. I do like that there are several used examples.

From 1914 to 1925, current Australian stamps were overprinted in Melbourne with "North West Pacific Islands" for use in the territory. This included stamps from the Kangaroo and Map series and the George V series. As a result of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, German New Guinea became the Territory of New Guinea, a League of Nations Mandate Territory under Australian administration. The overprinted stamps were still in use until 1925 when the administration issued the territory's first stamp series. A simplified set of 10 kangaroo issues. This post was made 2½ years ago by pilot in the thread Evolution of the Stamps of Papua and New Guinea. So, it is being quoted in full with image, and then moved to add it to this new thread started by Hugh ( hdm1950 ).

Thanks Chris ( Beryllium Guy ) for your recalling where these earlier posts were. I was surprised that although there was a file set up for North West Pacific Islands there were no threads there. I had only done a quick look at the Australia file to see if they may have been there. I guess I should not be surprised but I see on eBay that there are now reproductions available and being offered as such.
