I found this little beauty at the November 2022 Grapevine Texas stamp show in a dealer's dollar box. I thought it surely worth more than a dollar. How little did I realize
If you are curious, plug this eBay item number into a search in the SOLD items.

I would have paid a dollar for it. I am not good at valuing such an item. It was a good buy at least.

Congratulations, JeffS.... It's the sort of find we often dream of. Finding something in the bargain bin and reselling it for much more than what we paid for it. Kudos to you on seeing that this item was something more than what it was being offered for and turning your $1 investment into nearly $300. That's impressive, but it isn't surprising in light of all the great material you have shown from your collection here on the Forum. You have a great eye and extensive knowledge, which is a winning combination when used to its fullest advantage. Extraordinarily well done to you, Jeff!

Great find JeffS! I'm not good enough yet (maybe never will be!) to spot those kind of finds in the stamp world. In the computer world though...now that is a different story. That is where my ebay biz is focused on. Mike

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I did find it the day you posted it but I did need to go in using ebay.com rather than my usual ebay.ca . Having made my living from 2000 till about 4 years ago buying and selling stuff I had many of those exciting finds at yard sales and thrift stores. I have not sold much stamp related stuff but have seen that if one is to get a surprise it will be a cover. Individual stamps and sets hold very few if any surprises on eBay. Good for you. I see some more COGH triangles in your future...

Thank you Chris Beryllium Guy for your kind words. I have to admit that this item sold for about 10 times what I thought it might. After all, I listed it at $5 opening bid I think. The serious Liberty Series collectors are a rabid bunch when it comes to adding a "unique" item to their exhibits. But to have only two bidders, (neither whom I know), well had only one shown up at the auction, it most likely have sold for much less. Now I can finish paying for the last of those triangulars

Oh...a whole new view after going through a few dozen FDCs and determining valuations....
And I'm not sure how I forgot this Covers section existed in the forum....I'll be posting some of my better finds in the collection over here now. Mike

Forgive my ignorance in this issue. What made it valuable? What tipped you off?

Personally, if somehow this piece had come into my possession, based on its appearance, I would have ignorantly and quickly dispatched it to the crematorium (donation basket). I have no radar when it comes to modern US postal history. Congratulations on a nice sale! Rob

Forgive my ignorance in this issue. What made it valuable? What tipped you off? It was not the usual postage due receipt, the multi-color (value) franking was particularly attractive. Frankly I was expecting a sale in the $30s or so. I was totally blown away. Thanks for asking.
